Daft but enjoyable one reviewer called this. Can see where they are coming from... The subject matter get bleak pretty darn fast (and what are Robin and Matthew doing?) but this is page turner as we find out what actually happened and who has been doing the doings.

Although slow-paced fort the first 100 pages it really picks up and goes fasta. This one develops the relationship between Strike and Robin much more and is better for it.
This is the third outing for Cormoran Strike and his gutsy partner, Robin. Business is all going smoothly until a package arrives at the office for Robin, containing a severed leg. Someone from Strike's past is determined to destroy Cormoran's business and to hurt Robin. Strike forms a list of potential suspects, but can he track them down and identify which is the villain before it's too late?
I really enjoy this series and I feel very invested in Strike and Robin. The writing manages to propel the plot along swiftly while also making you want to slow down and savour the craft with which each sentence has been lovingly curated. But having said that, I didn't like this book as much as its two predecessors, mainly because it covers a lot of repellent territory. The central plot is pretty sinister, but it's the fact that Strike is delving into the lives of not one, not two, but three incredibly nasty people that means that it feels like an overload of unpleasantness.
A sub-plot concerns Robyn's rocky relationship with her fiance Matthew and I spent much of the book hoping that they will split up. The ending has me itching for the next book in the series!

JK Rowling, as Robert Galbraith, doesn't pull any punches. Either I'm getting used to the gore or it wasn't as strong as the second book as I only gagged once instead of the three times for Silkworm.
If you dive into any of Robert Galbraith's titles, don't read them: get the audiobooks. Seriously, just go with the audiobooks. Robert Glenister's narration is perfection. All of the various GB accents are done perfectly and with great respect. If you do listen to the audio don't be surprised if you find yourself yelling at the characters, especially during tense moments.
