I liked this book. Admittedly, I've been on a romantic suspense kick lately. And this book fit the bill. It has romance, archaeology, and suspense- see it has it all in there. And in a good mix. I loved the details. What I didn't like was the hero sleeping with the heroine before his cover was revealed to her. And yes, I know it was integral to the storyline so that all the shizzle would happen the way it was suppose to, but still it pissed me off. I also thought the heroine should have made the hero grovel a little more at a few points during the story. Regardless, the writing made me actually CARE about that, so it was all good in the end.

I liked this book so much that I bought the next two. And yes, I know I don't do star ratings like everybody else. But... whatevs. A 3 star from me is like a 4-5 star from someone else. So there. lol

Choices, lies and redemption

I loved, loved Erica and Lee’s exciting suspenseful romance with a side of secrets and betrayal. I fell directly into this story on the first page and only looked up after the last word. It was unputdownable. All of the unexpected plot twists made for a suspenseful mystery trying to guess what was going to happen next for the MCs and who were the bad guys. This story has a wonderful balance between the suspense, the intrigue, the mystery, and the swoony romance. All are crucial to the ebb and flow of the story. Erica trained as an underwater archeologist but a terrible choice and an evil man last year destroyed her career and feeling of safety. She is now using her other degree and working at Talon & Drake while trying to rebuild her life, find redemption, and exact revenge on the man who destroyed her old life. Lee is under cover as an intern at Talon & Drake looking for the person selling ancient artifacts through the company. Erica is his supervisor at the company and also a suspect. There is instant connection and attraction between the two but knowing they each have a hidden agenda and concealed pasts, they are both treading lightly. Nevertheless, their chemistry sizzled off the page and it pulled them together no matter how hard they tried to resist. The book has a little bit of everything just like you would expect from this genre - sweet moments, strong friendships, spicy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, dangerous moments, mystery, uber protective men, secrets, plot twists, painful pasts, evil actors, and love. The story included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I cannot wait to read more in this series.

Audiobook. Warning for intense descriptions of threatened rape, ruining a kid’s life, and murder. Lots of emphasis on trust - from a liar! Insufficient reckoning. SHITTY parents, literally not a good mom to be found.

Engineering, scuba diving, learning to fight, making good choices, finding people who love you.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written and very exciting, especially when it got into the swing of the story. The main character, Erica, was a really determined force of nature, and I liked the way she was written. She was a little frustrating at times because of her insistence on doing things by herself, but given what the character had been through, her lack of trust made sense.

I also liked Lee - both his real self and the pretend version he presents as to trick Erica. There were some quite funny bits when he was trying to pretend to be a 25 year old intern who knew nothing about anything in particular. Together, they had a lot of chemistry, and their scenes together were good. I did find it a little rushed at points. I believed they were very attracted to each other early on, and I understand he had a reason to push for it given his ‘mission’, but for my tastes it was a little bit rushed.

The plot was quite strong and very intricate, especially when it got into the nitty gritty of it. The twists just kept on coming, right up until the last few pages. I didn’t guess any of the major twists, so I was impressed by it. It did take a bit to get going. At first it seemed a bit slow: they spent a lot of time in archives and discussing concrete and stuff. But once it got going it moved really fast and didn’t really stop.

I would recommend it if you’re looking for an exciting romantic suspense novel with archaeology as a subject matter.
