I would have to give this book more of a 2.5 as opposed to a 3, and for various reasons. Firstly, I didn't enjoy the graphic language that was found in the book, especially the descriptions of sexual scenes, and the swear words which were peppered throughout the novel. I felt that these words were used at times in which they didn't need to be, and brought a certain spectrum to the novel which wasn't necessary. Secondly, I found that this book was much too cliche; girl and boy fall in love over a reason that the girl doesn't know about, girl finds out why the boy is there in the first place, girl gets mad at boy, girl then forgives boy, and eventually declares her love for him. I didn't feel that there was any mystery in any of the plot lines which took place in this novel. I was expecting everything to happen the way it did, and because of that, I wasn't intrigued with the novel in any way at all. Lastly, I felt that this book had too many plot lines all intermingled within one-another, and the book jumped from one plot line to another, making me confused. I wish that the book would have stuck with one major plot line, with only a few sub plots, which would have piqued my interest more so. Overall, this book just didn't do it for me, and I wouldn't be interested in reading it again.

Sonali I love you, please keep writing. If you are new to sonali dev’s book go read any other of her books and you will be in for SUCH a treat.
The only reason I DNF this book was the man MC made sooo many dick jokes which did not seem like Dev to me. I chalk it up to this being an early book of hers

My review is here.

This book is not what I was expecting. It is much more of a stock romance--especially once Samir arrives in the US--than the exploration of Indian culture I was expecting. But by the end, Sonali Dev won me over. A Bollywood Affiar is an over-the-top farce, rife with clichés, but by the end I loved it.

Mili and Virat were married as children, then haven't seen each other since. Through a series of misunderstandings, he believes the marriage has been annulled and now has a new, pregnant wife, but Mili considers herself a married woman waiting for her husband to come and get her. When Mili's grandmother makes a play for Virat's ancestral home, Virat finds out that the village council never annulled the marriage. Then Virat is nearly killed in an accident, so his playboy brother Samir goes to the US to chase down Mili and get her to sign papers to straighten everything out. You can see where this is heading-- mistaken identities, long held secrets revealed, mountains of Indian food eaten.

I loved this book. I'm even willing to forgive the occasionally purple prose (seriously, this sentence is only one of many similar: "One long spiral curl sprang free from her ponytail and skimmed her mocha skin still tinted pink with the remnants of anger, those high cheeks a barometer of her endless wellspring of emotion." *rolls eyes*) Bollywood Affair is a thoroughly fun read. The over-the-top-ness is part of its charm. Maybe it's like watching a Bollywood movie--I've never seen one, but maybe I'll track some down now. I'm so glad I kept wading through the complicated, somewhat absurd setup (an adult woman thinks she is in love with a boy she hasn't seen since she was four years old?) and kept going.

Couldn’t feel the spark between the characters.

Lately, I have been in the mood to read books set in different Asian countries. In the last two months, I have read books set in India. A Bollywood Affair is a book I found through browsing my city's public library.
Through this book, you can see the difference inside India as well as the Indians in the diaspora.
A Bollywood Affair is very refreshing to the romance genre, especially if you have watched a couple of Bollywood movies to get in the ambiance of the book.
While reading this book, I was hungry because Sonali Dev’s writing about food was so realistic.
The story of the bad boy and the innocent virgin is predictable, but this time, the story and prompt work well because Milli is waiting for her husband, and the person who finds her is her brother-in-law. Mills with her old fashion manages to change Samirto to become a better person for himself and the people he loves and takes care of the people he appreciates.
I would love to continue with the series I will try to look for it from my libraries.

I might just be of the opinion that Sonali Dev can't write anything I won't love.
