this book was nearly perfect had me laughing n crying n screaming just loved loved absolutely loved mili and samir's characters... the only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that somewhere i felt like there could have been a little more grovelling in the end ? maybe him going to her village making a bond with her nani and living the life she lived looking at world thro her lens or smth ??? but nonetheless an AMAZING book
What I liked:
Narrator's voice
Descriptions of food and clothing
What I disliked:
Excessive language
Very descriptive sex scenes (maybe a reminder why I don't really read romance?!)
Main character Milli was basically sexualized from page one when she was married off at the age of 4; despite not losing her virginity until she was an adult with her supposed brother-in-law.
I don't think this is a series I'll be continuing.
"It doesn't matter what my life has been like, Samir. What matters is hope. If you don't believe in a happy ending, what are you living for?" - Milli, A Bollywood Affair

This was a funny and moving story. Romcom st its best. The worst I can say was it made me hungry for Indian food.
Love this book. I'd give it 5 stars, but there were some problems with execution of this story. This is a sometimes sad, sometimes humorous tale about how two Indian families are intertwined when 4-year old Mili and 12-year old Virat are married in a religious ceremony. The also about India.. with a little snippet about how ones' experience in a village in India could be so different from Indian big city living. It's also about fiercely holding on to Indian culture while living in America... despite the culture progressing back home. I started the book at 10pm and forced myself to put it down at 3 am only to finish it the next morning. I hope this author writes another book.

Entertaining, interesting in terms of Indian culture though I'm not sure this is the best resource for learning about it. Not the best writing I've ever experienced, vastly overused the word "bastard."

Mili, Mili, Mili. Her character amazed me with her loyalty to a person she has not seen in 20 years! But the twist in this story that Samir brings was intriguing. Will the question be answered - will love conquer all obstacles? I really enjoyed this story. Looking forward to Book 2.
Iām so happy to seethes series. I loved every page of this adorable book.
Honestly. This is not only the most sexist book I have ever read from an author who is a woman but it is also outright racist. I don't care how strict the boss at Mili's dishwashing job is, that nickname is classic disney anti-Chinese racist.
The main male character could not be more of a misogynist if he tried. The classic "My love interest is the only female worth any respect, all other females are dirt underneath my feet."
And Mili is constantly crying, fainting, falling over; talk about a disney princess rescued by her prince. Awful. And hymen stuff. When are we going to evolve past the hymen-as-proof-of-purity? It is biologically inaccurate and the very foundation around which misogyny revolves and operates.
I am so sorry, but I HATED this book. I was hoping for much more. Ranks as low as "In the Name of the Wind," which serves as my standard for 1 star books. I rarely give books one star and it is pretty much reserved for unutterable misogyny, which is what we have here. :(
