This was very sweet. If you like romance novels but are looking for something new and unique then this is perfect. Besides the diverse main characters and the perspectives there were fun moments and interesting secondary characters. Wish the ending had been a little more fleshed out but then, I always think that.

Petition to turn this book into a bollywood movie.

This was so sweet!! I have an ARC of Sonali Dev's new book that I still need to dig into, but while at a book signing a few days ago, two buyers from the store rec'd a few of their favorite romance novels before the event started and this was on of them. It sounded so great, I had to pick it up right away and I'm glad I did!

I loved the characters, the plotline, the tropes, and OMG the descriptions of all the food...everything sounded so delicious and amazing.

Definitely going to read more from this author!

This book was hilarious! I haven't read any romance novels in recent memory and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the storyline and development of the characters. If this is what the modern romance novel looks like, I'll definitely be reading more. I enjoyed the emotional depths plumbed by the main characters in their journey towards love and self discovery, and felt that this was a really lovely, culturally rich novel.

Perfect book for a trip to India

This slow burn romance was enjoyable and provided some interesting insights into Indian culture and family dynamics. There was some excessive repetition of phrases in certain parts of the book, and repetition that was also on point. I liked the character development that occurred throughout the book almost as peeling layers of an onion. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the production. I’ve read mixed reviews about the remaining books in this series, and I’m not sure if I’ll read more. However, I do recommend this book.

I'm really giving this a 3.5, but I'll round up because the story was good. I struggled with the author's adjectives. If I read about Sam's "bulging arms" one more time I would have DNFed. I'm doing a "Diversify your reading" Challenge and this month's genre was romance. I don't normally read romance because I find it annoying and this one fell into a few of the traps I was expecting it to. However, the story was what kept the pages turning.

The premise is that a girl is married off at age 4. The 12 year old husband flees the abuse of his grandfather (who forced the marriage) with his mother and assumes the marriage is annulled because of their ages. Turns out it is not and the girls has been living traditionally, taking care of the estate they left behind. Fast forward 20 years and she is in America studying and her "husband" is just finding out the marriage is still intact. He is expecting a child with his current wife (who might not be his legal wife now that he knows he was already married). His brother goes to America looking for the girl and chaos ensues... If you can get over the cliches of a typical romance novel, you will like this story.

Cute, not taxing. Pretty much can guess plot thought out, but ok if that's what you are looking for.

Loooooooved this.

One of the most raved about books on romance blogs and elsewhere last year, and I can see why. A young woman comes into her own facing the cultural obstacles blocking her way. I enjoyed it well, but of course didn’t review right away. Lovely book.
