This beautifully written book definitely comes with many content warnings for various types of SA, grooming, and trauma.

I listened to the audiobook, lovingly narrated by the author. It’s such a gritty, raw, honest story about a queer youth finding himself, and I enjoyed every minute of it - even though some bits were tough to get through due to being quite triggering. It’s an important story that needs to be shared.

This was quite the book. George M. Johnson is an incredible person, and their story is a very important one for everyone to hear. The incredible thing about this story is that while most memoirs are about someone with a very unique or unusual story, Johnson's is very commonplace, it just has hardly ever been told before. On top of its importance to society, the book is also full of stories about Johnson's life that are heartwarming, sad, and everything in between. I'm so glad I got to experience this book, and I would recommend it to absolutely anyone.

I listened to this on audio because I love when an author narrates their own memoir. This is a great book with important lessons.

I knocked off a star because some of the chapters are in the form of letters to people in the author’s life and I didn’t think it worked well. These letters are really written to the audience and convey information about the person (e.g. “you were tall with dark skin”) and other phrasing that is not how you write to someone you know. That took me out of the writing a bit.
