Guilty pleasure reading. Was it perfect, no. But it was such an easy read. I guess part of me still likes teenage angst and drama. Especially rich teenage drama.

Ella was the sour part of this book. She was very juvenile and annoying. I suppose that is expected of a teenager. But it still irked me.

But regardless I enjoyed this enough. I was able to disappear for several hours and that alone makes this worth it.

Broken Prince is the second book in The Royals series by writing duo Erin Watt. It's duel pov with Ella and Reed. So the reader gets to see some of Reed's thoughts that we didn't get in Paper Princess. What an ending.

3.5 stars. Why? Because it was so good, yet so enraging. So I don't like to read the-romantic interest's point of view. I want my creative freedom to decide how this person thinks, I want to be allowed thoughts of my own.

Also, I don't want to spend my time gagging at the cliche ways these dudes talk about their love interests or compare their love interest's skin to "smooth, milky skin," or "soft, innocent smiles," or that shit. It feels so unreal. And it usually ends up happening.

So I was nervous for this.

Reed, yeah this guy grovels at Ella's feet. He calls her his girl, but he doesn't belittle her by constantly calling her "innocent" or "naive." He respects her strength by allowing her to fight her own battles, and cheering her on. And I like him for it. Ella doesn't make his forgiveness easy, either, which I like even more. He was tough and all, but tried not to be overbearing (except these two instance, where Ella called him out). He called her on her bullshit but he also respected her space.

Despite that all, the thing that really gets to me, is the dynamics of the family. The Royals are each Other's allies and best friends, yet they never confront one another of their problems. The Royal Matriarch died two years ago, and her death leaves her entire family in distress. Callum Royal drinks and sleeps around and invests his time in his business. Gideon flies all over the place. Reed fights. Easton...god he is...he is an addict, in every way. Easton fights, sleeps around and drinks and drugs himself to oblivion. The twins have a messed up relationship with a single girl that they juggle back and forth— yeah I was kind of startled too. All of them clash with each other and fight, yet no one ever confronts the issue, that is, until Ella. We meet a distressed, emotionally-ruined family, and towards the end of this book, you can see how confrontations have allowed this family to slowly reconcile with one another.

BUT DAMNIT THAT FUCKING ENDING. DO YOU WANT TO KILL ME, WATT?

It was not one but THREE PLOT-TWISTS in the span of like three pages.

I won't lie, there was some stupid shit that I won't condone (sometimes unnecessary sexual references, or when Val makes light of an eating disorder) that's why it's not a full 4 stars, but it was a damn great read.
