Firstly, the fat-shaming descriptions of the librarian were painful to read and felt rather at odds with the rest of the book, which is an entirely lovely thing that I couldn't wait to read every night. If you can overlook that you'll be delighted by this warm, comforting book.

I love the concept but I can't stand how the characters have described the librarian's appearance. I thought it would only happen with the first character. After the second one doing the exact same thing, I can't keep reading this. I'm sad. I really liked the idea.

While some of its charm reminded me of Before The Coffee Gets Cold, it did not have the found family element and I did not like the fatphobic way the librarian was described. Decided to not push through and read something else instead.

This would have been a 4 but there is fatphobia in each chapter and with the exception of the last character the narrator choices were terrible.  The first 3 had british accents so it doesn't feel like the book takes place in Japan. The 4th narrator was just obnoxious, but the last was perfect!
