I only listened to 8% of the audiobook. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to connect with the first character because I couldn’t understand that she knew so little about computers. I also didn’t like the way she described the librarians appearance. She use the word, Yikes! and huge, clarifying she’s not fat, but then continuing on to say that you couldn’t decipher her chin from her neck and liking her appearance to a polar bear curled up in winter. I believe the narrator had an English accent, yet this is set in Japan…? I listened for a few minutes after that and just didn’t resonate with this storytelling and decided to put it down.

This book came at a great time for me, and really gave me that much-needed hope and inspiration. Two people had already recommended it to me and I'm glad I took a look. Each character has a separate struggle, personality, and life situation, but you can still find ways to relate to all of them and feel like you, too, have grown by following their journey into a better life. It was simple and sweet, and reminds you to stop and smell the roses, go after your dreams, and find small ways to improve your life. Definitely a book I would recommend to anyone.

Idk this was fine I guess… I liked the last story. I didn’t really have any feelings towards any characters, in fact I found most of them a bit annoying. I’m so disappointed I was so ready for this to become a new fav 😭

This is an entire book about people realizing that jobs aren’t identities and that life is to be found outside of jobs - I am so here for it! I really enjoyed each of the journeys of our library patrons and was especially drawn to the delightful, felting librarian. This is beautifully paced, well written and translated with a very important message.
