good story, until the moment a TSTL action by the character was used as a a plot device. Ugh.

No other book has said “make love” in stead of saying “have sex” so many times. Lmao. Liked it a lot regardless

Pleasant enough characters but they just struck me as sophomorish. Maybe because of the way Alexis almost idolizes Blake, the fascination with his forearms, saying women throw themselves at him, etc.? She just comes across as immature. Maybe because Blake seems to run hot and cold towards Alexis? He comments on her physical appearance (lack of stature where he usually dates taller women, etc,) and then says how beautiful she is. Then all of a sudden (after some light drama) he's wanting to have a relationship with her? Sorry, and I'm probably in the minority here, but I just couldn't feel any type of spark between the characters here.

This is a new author to me and I would give another story in the series a try to see if it was just this one that didn't work for me.

Thank you NetGalley and Montlake Romance for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

I liked Blake and Alexis. There were several funny moments with them.

Ace Security continued working to get dirt on the Inca Boyz gang. The romance between Blake and Alexis I could handle. Even if I thought her forearm fetish was a little interesting. What I couldn't stretch my imagination to accept was Alexis being allowed to go in to infiltrate a ruthless gang. Innocent, virginal Alexis was supposed to be so ditzy, that streetwise Kelly would be suspicious of Alexis wanting to be her friend after what happened in middle school.

I just could not buy any of that. Then considering the aftermath of the first meeting, to allow her to have a second encounter! Too much.

Not a bad read, but I would recommend you read this book and judge for yourself. I read the book via Kindle Unlimited.

I liked Alexis.. but sometimes she also annoyed me too?

Claiming Alexis is the second book of the Ace Security series. In it, you will meet Alexis and Blake. If you read/listened to the previous book, well... you would've met them. Once you did, well once I did, I totally saw that they were going to become a couple. I didn't expect any of the drama that happened though.

Okay, so Alexis is sort of intern at Ace. She goes undercover, which ends up not going well - at all. It's with the gang that took Grace captive in the first book, and she unfortunately runs into someone from her past. Ugh, I hated that skank and I don't even want to mention her name. I will mention that these people took advantage of her and her money. Again, I hated this whole situation.. even if she was undercover and was playing the role of a ditzy rich girl.

Other than that, I loved the little smut that I got between Alexis and Blake. I especially liked her drunk and the way he tried to handle her talking. It was hilarious.. but other than that, everything else was just okay. I'm glad that everyone in his family appeared in this book and I sort of can't wait to dive into Bailey's book. Mostly because I just want to know more about the third brother - he's just so freaking mysterious!

Claiming Alexis is the second book in the Ace Security series by Susan Stoker. While this story was a bit different that the previous one this one still has the three Anderson brothers, only this is Blake and Alexis story.

Alexis has always wanted to have friends who saw her for more than her parents money. They didn't always have the millions they have now and in middle school her best friend was Kelly. Then everything changed and when money was something her friends wanted not her friendship. Flash forward a to the present when they meet again, Kelly is now one of the biker babes to the Inca boys who kidnapped Grace and Alexis works for the Ace brothers. She offers to to go undercover to prove herself to Blake. But when it all goes south will Blake be able to save Alex in time?

Blake wonders if Alexis is serious about being a private eye or is this just another job that she'll grow tired of like all the others she's had. Can he fight the attraction he feels for her or will he give in when she tells him she feels the same? Will the information that Alexis gets from the Incas and Kelly be enough for the Ace brothers and the feds when they take her hostage?

There a hint at the next book which will be Nathan and Bailey's turn and the showdown that is coming with Inca's and it looks to be an interesting one.

Claiming Alexis (Ace Security 2) by Susan Stoker

Narrated by Erin Bennett

Romantic Suspense, 2nd in a series about different couples. It is better if you read Claiming Grace first.

While I had a few issues with Grace in Claiming Grace, I still really enjoyed the writing, the characters, and the mix of romance, suspense and alpha male. So right after listening to it, I grabbed Claiming Alexis by Susan Stoker. Alexis was introduced in the first book, and I do think that this book would read much better if you read Claiming Grace first.

Blake is the second brother of the triplets that own Ace Security. He’s the computer dude, and a little more quietly alpha than the other guys.

Alexis grew up rich and has been fighting off people’s judgements of her because of it her whole life. People use her for her money so she never really got close to anyone (Read: VIRGIN). Alexis has been flitting around from job to job after graduating with a degree in general studies. But after helping them out at Ace Securities in Claiming Grace, Alexis wants to do more in the PI business. And she wants to take down the gang who was involved in the incidents of the first book.
He wanted to know the real Alexis Grant. Because Blake had a feeling that woman was going to be the most precious thing he’d ever found in his entire life . . . if he could keep her safe from herself.

This isn’t instalove. The couple work together, they each silently have a thing for each other (especially her), but they don’t jump on it. So she is thrilled when she realizes her crush has feelings back.
She, Alexis Grant, virgin extraordinaire, had apparently managed to catch the attention of one of the sexiest men in Castle Rock. Oh shit.

While I enjoyed the book, I found myself doing some eye rolling. I am not a big fan of adult virgin books, but I guess the title says it all.
As she lay snoring lightly in his arms, Blake vowed that she’d be his. He’d be the only man to see her naked. The only man to get inside her. The only man she’d dream about. She was his.

But what really made me eye roll was that they let this society girl go undercover into killer gangs! WTF? And the cops allowed it too!

Still, I was glued to my headphones to see what happened, so despite the cheesiness, it was a fun listen.

Likes:

  • •Kept me engaged the whole time.

  • •The tie-in with Claiming Grace.

  • •Blake is great.

  • •Quick and angst free

  • •Set up well for the next.

Dislikes:

  • •3rd person.

  • •Adult virgin.

  • •They sent an inexperienced society girl undercover into killer gangs!

  • •I never really felt a huge chemistry with the couple.

The Narration:

It’s third person, but the narrator was excellent. I think her narration enhanced the book.

Note:

Don't listen to out loud if you have any Alexa enabled devices! They were going NUTS because "Alexis" (said a LOT in 3rd person) sounds just like "Alexa"!

The Down and Dirty:

I wanted to love this book! I hear amazing things about Susan Stoker and though I enjoyed it and wanted to listen to the whole thing and was engaged in the story, I found myself doing a lot of eye rolling. It just felt like an old fashioned bodice ripper my grandma would read sometimes. The whole virgin thing made it feel more New Adult than adult to me. Reading other reviews, it seems her fans don’t love this series as much as the others. Since her storylines keep me riveted with the perfect blend of romance and suspense, I definitely want to try a story from another one of her series.

Rating: 3 Stars, 3.5 Heat, 5 Narration

I wasn’t feeling this book and I’m starting to wonder if this particular series is just not right for me. I know I’ll give it at least one more book because there is enough keeping my interest that I want to see how it plays out. The MMCs of the first three books are triplets so I at least want to see them all get their HEAs.

The characters are wonderful, which is part of the reason it’s hard to quit the series. Yet as wonderful as they are, I felt both Alexis and Blake made some decisions in this story that didn’t make sense for the characters as they had been presented in both the first book and this one. And while I like the couple together, I felt there was more telling than showing in this one.

There are some intense situations that Alexis gets herself into as she goes undercover. She reaches out to an old primary school friend who became a middle and high school bully to her so she can get the inside scoop on the gang that was hired to hurt Grace. The way she is bullied and used now, even as an adult, hurts my heart for her. Alexis is very resilient and I loved her character.

Even though there is a lot of telling, there is a bit of showing and it’s great when that happens. Blake and Alexis fit together well and I enjoyed how comfortable they were, especially once they admitted their feelings.

Good!

Much more up to this author’s writing standards than the first in the series, in my opinion. I’m so glad I kept reading.
