Secrets at Skull House was a charming sequel to [b:Murder at Pirate's Cove|49090387|Murder at Pirate's Cove (Secrets and Scrabble, #1)|Josh Lanyon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1575445951l/49090387._SY75_.jpg|74526385]. Again, I liked the setting and the townspeople. The mystery was light but engaging, and the suspense well done, and not too drawn out.

I'll be honest, I don't think I enjoyed this one as much as the first. This books are supposed, by the author's own words, supposed to be light, short and fun. This one, however, made me feel really down; the relationship angst I'm fine with, great even, but
Spoiler having Ellery be the main suspect once again felt heavy and upsetting to read about in a way that the first book wasn't. There was a huge chunk in the middle of this book where I just felt upset reading, and I don't think that's the kind of feeling one should have with cozies, especially because the whole point from what I get is that the whole murder aspect doesn't feel heavy.

The end, however, was quite delightful. I loved the entire last tense sequence, and that last scene... let's just say I re-read it a couple of times. All in all, the book was entertaining and it kept me engaged for hours; however, I won't say I'm not eager to jump into the next one and leave this one behind.

3.5*
Still enjoyable but felt that the mystery was a bit weaker than last time.
The same cast of characters was about - Sue Lewis wouldn’t be mourned much!
Ellery lands bang slap in the middle of it all again.
The non relationship between Ellery and Jack seemed to take precedence over everything, and whilst they went further, they also went nowhere.
Still, looking forward to book 3, even though it is May 21 due
