Another good mystery. More great characters. Beautifully crafted settings. (I love Josh Lanyon's settings. ) Great narration. What more can a m/m, mystery, romance fan ask for? Well... I adore stories that involve bookstores, law enforcement, and disgraced &/(!?$#@s. Not giving away that one just in case it counts as a spoiler. But yeah. I got those things too.
Book two was a bit slow for me. I am moving onto book three because I like the charcters very much (book 3 not published yet).

Audiobook review July 2023
It is interesting to revisit this in a different time in my life ... where I am reading less, more busy/stressed, and starving for a good escape. This provided that. A cozy series with just the right amount of charm and chemistry to make for a delightful read. And, yes that much needed escape I was looking for. I am going to bump up my rating because I believe this book deserves it. A slow burn masterfully done in a lovely atmospheric seaside setting. I am looking forward to returning to charming AF Pirate's Cove in the next book of the series. My summers are usually a time to slow down, soak up the sun and read books ... but this year isn't like that ... so I am REALLY looking forward to stealing away for a few hours somewhere quiet and pretty to savor this series and the delightful cast of characters ... Thank you JL.
________
I would rate this 3.5 stars. An addictive series but with something missing. The meddling book seller is a character that we have seem before. I don't mind because I love that character. But I am missing the chemistry that you usually find in this author's books ... it feels we are in some kind of suspended animation ... and as we move into book 3 (next year!) that might become tiresome if drawn out to long ...

Comfy cosy, no nasty surprises, a few laughs - I currently like Jack more than Ellery, perhaps because I'm seeing him through Ellery's eyes. I also enjoy the mix of mystery and ongoing friendship/potential, even if I did read...somewhere that there are ten instalments planned and on the one hand I'm thinking yay - eight more lovely stories in Pirate's Cove, on the other...that's a long play of will they/won't they.

I loved this second book even more than the first. Ellery keeps delighting me, I warmed up more to Jack, plus Nora is a hoot. The mystery portion is fairly light but no less fun.
Ellery is anything but happy when his ex, Brandon, shows up, having bought a house he wants to search for ghosts in.
Then he finds him dead, and once again, he’s the prime suspect. Jack tries to not be involved, but it keeps them distant, and it leaves Ellery with only his theatre buddies and friends to figure things out.
I listened to this book and enjoyed the characters and the mystery. It also leave Jack and Ellery no further along in their relationship, but there’s nothing like more angst and murder to come!
