A heavy event about dealing with loss, failure, and - ultimately - the butterfly effect.
It's very well put together - surprisingly good - but one or two tie-in issues seemed wasted or pointless

Lots of loose ends, perhaps an omnibus would have been better.
Ultron runs roughshod over the heroes as Wolverine heads back in time w/ Sue Storm to snuff out Hank Pym. Just got around to reading this after purchasing the hardcover in 2015, laugh. Does not bear any similarities to the Avengers movie of the same name, this one kicks right off with Ultron wiping the floor with everyone prompting some desperate time travel. I'll have to see if this ever had a companion volume because it's really patchy trying to include all this in one OHC, maybe an omnibus would be a better vehicle. Seemed to leave a ton of dangling plot lines in different books. (j4.)

A promising start.
Time travel shenanigans mid-way through.
An incomprehensible ending.

Not as bad as I'd expected! I've never understood why Bendis is considered such a great writer, and annual Events from the Big Two are pretty much always a confusing clusterfuck with more attention paid to packing as many characters into the action as possible than with interesting use of characters.

I would never recommend this book, but there were a few good bits. The best part of the whole collected hardcover was probably the variant cover art at the back.

How a bunch of superheroes deal with living in what is essentially the apocalypse would normally be really really interesting to me. But somehow that story never really plays out. Marvel's at it's best when it's being hopeful instead of grim like this story is. And the ways in which it all plays out gets convoluted and focussed on mostly Wolverine pretty fast.

The side stories to this event are a lot more interesting. I don't know the background a lot of them so some of them just left me feeling confused and a bit bored. There is a Black Widow story in there that I really LOVE though.

It started out well, but got pretty sloppy.

All the important setup comics were in the back of the book. The panels also seemed really disorganized, making it difficult to follow and unpleasant to read.

It's a two to four issue What If... stretched to 10, painfully, and with a few dialogue tweaks it almost becomes a buddy comedy farce. No idea if this was a Bendis story - if editorial humored him - or if he humored movie execs who wants a big Ultron event prior to Avengers 2. Whoever was responsible deserves a stern talking-to.

For folks looking to read this, check it out from a library or borrow it from a friend who was suckered into buying it.

The HC also included 9 AU followup/interstitial issues. Couldn't read them. So much padding!!

I liked the story most of the time, but I guess it was too dark for me...

I only read this last month and I've already forgotten everything that happened in it. I don't remember disliking it either though so I guess it was good enough to pass the time.
