Similarly to the last HZD graphic novel, I didn't read the plot beforehand, so I didn't realize this would be an elaboration on a previous questline that was explored in the HZD game. That being said, I think that's what made this work so well, and why I could enjoy it. It adds to the lore, and gives the reader more insight into some of the things that were discussed in the game. In this case, it has everything to do with Erend and his sister. It was lovely getting to see more of Erend, and to hear the story of his sister in greater depth. I will say that the transitions, at times, were a little awkward or felt difficult to follow, but that may have been an issue with me reading it as an ebook, and rather fast at that. Apart from that, this book kept me entertained and I was glad to learn a little bit more about Erend and his sister, especially since it gives us more insight to Erend, who plays a major role in both games. The art style wasn't quite my favorite, but that's okay. It worked for the story. It FELT like a HZD story. Not just really bad (or somewhat decent) fanfiction. So I think it earns those four stars.

I’ve always wanted to know more about Erand

The art was beautiful and I felt like I was seeing a more in-depth view of a side quest mission.

Thank you Titan Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't find this one as engaging as V.1 with Tanalah, but I loved seeing more of Erend and Aloy and actually getting to see Ersa in action!

So, I haven't played this game, or read the first volume of this series, and I'm not going to get mad at this volume because of that. I went in expected to be confused (which I am, a bit), but that's on me.
Aloy and Erend are tracking Korl; Erend blames Korl for the death of his sister, Ersa, and seeks revenge. As they hunt, Aloy asks Erend to tell her the story of what happened to Ersa, and that is the main part of this book, in between fighting off machines and such. We get an exciting story full of intrigue, betrayal, and hard-won wisdom, but this will mean a lot more to someone that's played the game than someone like me who hasn't. The story is self-contained if you are familiar with what came before it (and honestly, I got most of what was going on, I just missed out on the back story), no cliffhanger ending, and the art was quite nice.
