If you're one bad turn from running a hot bath, downing Quaaludes, and slitting your wrists, by all means avoid this book. It's depressing as hell. Mind you, it's a pretty neat story. Part of a fairly long series and I'm not sure if I'll go back to it.

"Lord Foul's Bane" is a poorly written conglomeration of commonplace fantasy themes and I can't see what appeal this holds for anyone. Donaldson tries to create an antihero in Thomas Covenant, but misses his mark, making the whole book a struggle for the reader.

Loathed this outdated piece.
Why? Because in a very early scene, the main protagonist rapes a girl. No explanation or debrief.
So instead of enjoying an otherwise okay read, I was angrily obsessing over why the author inserted their twisted hero rape fantasy into the story. Seriously. F**K that.

The main character in this is such an insufferable asshole and I dont believe it for a second. Like I know what the author is trying to do with it but it never works as far as I'm concerned. Stuck with it because the fantasy was cool and it was well-written (prose-wise)

I gave up on this book, and that rarely happens. The protagonist hates himself, and it never gets better.
