Such great fun! I love the way she tells so much of the story through conversations- I giggled all the way through.

Fun! The best one in the series, yet. A slow start in the first 2 chapters and then all the Lord Peter Whimsey fun begins. I’m enjoying this love interest that has begun, too.

Oh yes, going to re-read the Harriet Vane novels in 2021 because, well, I didn't really see the humor when I read this book in my 20s. On this reading, I laughed out loud. More of this, please.

Sayers is simply marvelous.

My first Lord Peter Wimsey mystery! The characters and setting details are delightful. The actual mystery was my least-favorite part, though I appreciated that much of the actual sleuthing was done by the spinsters from "the Cattery."

I look forward to reading more of the series...

I watched a BBC mini-series adaptation of this when I was a teen and really liked. I finally got around to reading the novel and it's even better. Sharp, witty, and suspenseful, and it's been long enough since I watched the adaptation that I forgot whodunnit and the reveal was nicely set up. (The only negative point for me was a lot of pop culture references--the pop culture being 1930s Britain, which I'm far from being an expert on. But that wasn't enough to ruin the book for me.)

I love that Peter’s kind of a disaster in addition to being an excellent detective. His and Harriet’s back and forth in this is adorable and I think their interactions are my favorite parts of the book. The army of spinster typists is up there as well!

Maybe don't start in the middle of the series, self. But this was a delightfully British mystery and I enjoyed it. Perhaps if I had started at the beginning of the series, this book would be slightly less confusing at the start.

3 1/2 ⭐️

More like 3.5 because this was so ENDEARING? I have never met a fictional detective that I would like to smooch before this is very strange but. but. Lord Peter Wimsey just. casually decides he's going to marry the suspect in a murder case, goes out of his way to prove her innocent while worrying that she won't marry him all the way this is. my kinda stuff.

I went through a Sir Peter Whimsey kick at the beach this summer. I have yet to finish them all, but they're great fun for light reading.
