I was recommended this book by a friend, and I definitely enjoyed it. The start was a bit slow but once the story got going it picked up momentum.
The mystery was well crafted and although the ending was a tad predictable, there were a few twists I didn't see coming and it wrapped up nicely.

My main motivation for reading this series is Peter/Harriet so I was excited to finally meet Harriet. I was disappointed that we didn't actually get a lot of Harriet in the book, but what we did get was really strong character writing. And the banter with Peter across a prison interview table promises great things for later books. It was great to see Peter flustered and floored by love but I was a bit annoyed with him for pushing his suit (although relieved that he realised what a terrible position Harriet was in).
I LOVED the long interludes with Miss Murchison and Miss Climpson and the overall idea of The Cattery is perfect.

Picked this one up on a whim in the library. Love the way that the Lord Detective goes to interview the young woman on trial for murder and then spends the entire time pressuring her to marry him (provided of course, that he manages to save her from the hangman’s noose). Great start to a relationship!

I wonder if I wouldn't have enjoyed this more if I'd read the previous books in the series.

As is, I don't much care for Lord Wimsey. He's both silly and smart in a way that I don't find charming, not nearly as charming as to justify his flippant attitude. And I think that's something I'm supposed to enjoy about this book. That's not a literary criticism. It's really just my personal taste, I think.

Otherwise, this book is fine. I think the structure -- beginning with a trial rather than ending -- is very interesting. And there are lots of fun, cultural items from the time that I found entertaining.

But the plot is fairly pat and I just couldn't feel much tension in this book.

Not that it matters for the book itself, but the sound on the audiobook version is not very good.

It's been a theme lately but this book took me a little bit to get into, mostly also to get used to the language. The book was recommended to me by my tutor about 3 years ago, and I finally picked it up. It was fun and I liked that it wasn't too long. Peter Wimsey is a nice main character, but I got lost in the characters several times which was a nuisance. The plot is very good though, and I'm wondering if I'll pick up more Dorothy L. Sayers books in the future if they're all this fun!

Excellent detective fiction novel. I'm now a Lord Peter Wimsey fan. Includes humor with a blend of romance. There are many interesting characters from a variety of backgrounds. Wimsey goes to great extent to prove his theories, employing whatever means necessary.
mysterious slow-paced

I am starting to get these Lord Wimsey books now, more of a How-dunnit as opposed to a who-dunnit. They're funny, and enjoyable, but not terrible surprising or un-guessable.

Solid, entertaining mystery by one of the masters of the genre.
