I’m surprised by the average reviews as I loved this book. Prose’s ability to both allow one to really understand Molly’s feelings and logic while also showing how others tend to interpret her behaviour was done in a way that made me angry for Molly. Cried a lot, highly recommend.

An easy, cozy mystery. Molly was likeable enough as a protagonist although a lot of her interactions, worldviews bordered very closely on infantilising. The characters are pretty flat, what you see is what you get and I won’t say I was necessarily surprised at their choices/parts in the narrative. The best part was the relationship between Molly and her grandmother and its revelation throughout the story. It was very tender, wholesome, and bittersweet.

Synopsis: Autistic hotel cleaner Molly Maid sees the world through a different lense - one where things are governed by rules and order. But her world view is challenged when a hotel guest is murdered and the rules she once relied on are used against her.

Review: This was not an enjoyable read, with an unreliable narrator (because of Molly's autistic brain misinterpreting things), and Molly continually being taken advantage of and bullied because of her autism. The final reveal felt unbelievable and a little lazy in a world of cameras.

This book does a fantastic job of combining characters and plot. Who the characters are in the eyes of the main character is just as important as who they are for the plot. The mystery is simple, but it's the people who make it complicated. I really enjoyed how even though you can guess the ending, you still won't guess the full thing--not because it's hard, but because it's easy. It's a fairly easy read, but also enthralling.

Light and fun read with a great ending. Only beef is with some inaccuracies in the legal/trial process which are only a problem for sticklers in the legal field like me. 10/10 recommend though.
