Boring and slow

Wel geinig - geluisterd tijdens het hardlopen

I enjoyed this light-as-fluff, madcap murder mystery. The first-time author is a longtime editor and certainly knows how to keep a plot rolling, introduce characters, and get you caring a lot about the protagonist, who is an exceptional staff maid at a swanky city hotel, due in part to her obvious "on the spectrum" personality. The story is told in first-person perspective, drawing the reader's sympathies and also providing the reader with the "Bad Idea! Don't Do It!" frissons that the protagonist is oblivious to. It works well because all of the bad guys get their come-uppance, the on-the-edge guys move toward redemption, and the innocents are saved (and then some).

Not too bad. Not the best mystery book as you could easily guess what was going to happen. FMC sure does love Olive Garden though

Overall me gustó igual

This was a sweet, quirky murder mystery about a maid who stumbles across a dead body whilst doing her cleaning rounds. I loved Molly, and the fact we got neurodiverse representation in here without making it a big thing - it slotted really well into the story and gave her such charm.

I did, however, find the mystery a bit boring and predictable  - I didn't find anything new or groundbreaking in the breakdown of the crime. There's a lot of female oppression in this, and it does get very infuriating (I'm all for highlighting it, but it seemed a bit too much at times), especially as Molly is used like a pawn so much.

What brought this back up was the ending. The last few twists really made me pause and I feel like it gave Molly's character another level of sophistication.

I'm not sure if I'll be rushing back to this series, but it was quite fun.

3/5 - interesting premise for a summer read murder mystery undercut by a disappointing ending that disregards the premise of the entire book.
