The first half of the book up was good— Molly is likable, quirky and I enjoyed her way of talking/thinking. The writing was decent. (Everyone is trying to be Eleanor Oliphant these days, amirite?) Then out of nowhere the second half (after Molly gets arrested) goes off the rails…

Couple things:

- the portray of Juan Manuel was cliché & borderline offensive (the duped undocumented immigrant who “doesn’t know English” but speaks and understand perfectly but is just oh so simple and homesick)
- there is a massive drug ring in a major hotel that the police are too dumb to know about? Even though it only took one afternoon for the main characters to figure it out?
- a hot shot lawyer swoops in, does shady investigations & suddenly saves the day? but then is also seemingly a lawyer in the court room scene for some reason? why is she even there?
- the “plot twist” was completely left field and unnecessary (new character with zero clues throughout the book)
- ... as was the sudden romance btw Molly and Juan Manuel
- also Molly is so inconsistent -- very naïve but then suddenly calculated and street smart?? I almost feel like the author starts the book conflating neurodivergence with stupidity.

As much as I liked the premise and the story I’m deducting points for a book being set in modern day where a neurodivergent person who doesn’t understand social cues has never been heard of? Nah

Kicked off my fun summer reading with this delightful series -- 4 books to date. Read each in just a couple of days. I especially appreciated the author's thoughtful and respectful portrayal of the lead character, who is neuroatypical. Great mysteries with great characters. An all-around feel-good experience.

I loved this book so much and Molly was a charming character who had a good sense of humour as well. I didn’t see the twist coming so that was a surprise at the end but I think towards the end it got a bit repetitive and could have been cut down and some of it removed but still all in all a pleasant read with cosy vibes.

Amazing. Humans are the biggest mystery of this world.

Beautifully written. Justice is all about points of views and perceptions and that’s why justice is different yet so similar for everyone.
