Truly could not put this book down. A twist at every corner!

I really liked this book! And the audiobook was great! I enjoyed Molly the maid and the other cast of characters
Loveable characters: Yes

I’m surprised by the average reviews as I loved this book. Prose’s ability to both allow one to really understand Molly’s feelings and logic while also showing how others tend to interpret her behaviour was done in a way that made me angry for Molly. Cried a lot, highly recommend.

REVIEW FOR FUTURE ME WHEN I FORGET THAT I EVEN READ THIS BOOK:

Yuck. This book was offensive. It depicted a character with obvious difficulties navigating social interactions and the awful people who seemed to blame, ridicule and exploit her for it. Detective Stark, Mr Snow, Rodney, Giselle; deplorable. You felt like it should have been set decades ago if readers were to believe this treatment would have been so broadly accepted. The writing style felt naive and you didn’t particularly enjoy the first person narration and all the reductive internal monologues it afforded. The plot twists were weak and relied on the first person narration to hide things from the reader which you didn’t think was a strong writing technique. You were shook that Flo would produce this as a film.

I found the book itself really slow. It had good parts that had the potential to keep the reader hooked from the get go, but I felt like I had to force myself to finish reading it.

Molly is a maid working at the Regency Grand Hotel. Molly loves and takes pride in her job, probably more so than anyone else who works there, though she is rarely noticed for her good work. Molly has also just discovered one of their biggest VIP guests dead in his room. What follows is more than just your simple 'whodunnit' story, it's a mystery that needs to be solved. And Molly has seen more than she realises.

I don't remember reading anything like this before, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Did not want to put the book down. It wasn't a hard one to figure out to be honest, apart from the very last piece of the story (didn't see that coming!), but the way it's told is very enjoyable and I really came to like Molly and want the best for her.

This was a cute book and I liked it. A classic mystery with an unconventional heroine.

DID NOT FINISH: 14%

I tried reading this book two or three times, and couldn’t get past the first 50 pages. I didn’t care for the MC’s voice. The story also didn’t grab me.
