I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book at the beach. Told in the first person by Molly the maid who is neurodivergent, this cozy murder felt unique. I thoroughly enjoyed Molly and her relationship with her beloved Gran - which we learn about in the past tense sense she died before the events of the story commence. The plot is tight and pulled me along with ease. I did t guess the murderer, but honestly I wasn’t that interested - too caught up with Molly. Not a lot realistic here - but that’s not what I can for so not a problem.

10/10 : Molly Gray is a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel, & prides herself on her exacting standards of perfection - an essential bee in the running of the hive. Recently bereaved, Molly is deeply mourning the loss of her Gran, the woman who raised her, & the only person she truly had in the world. Molly lives a simple life, framed by lessons her Gran taught her, however, she isn’t like everyone else, & as the book follows her daily routines, it quickly becomes apparent that her social skills & how she reads the world are neurodivergent. Without wanting to give away spoilers, Molly finds herself in a most unfortunate situation, after discovering a very wealthy guest of the hotel dead in his room. The events that transpire see Molly taken for questioning by the police, & becoming one of the main suspects in their murder investigation. Mollys vulnerabilities have been exploited & her innocent trusting nature taken advantage of, but her Gran must be looking out for her & guiding her, allowing her to be helped by 3 people she truly can trust. I read this book very quickly {I am a quick reader}, feeling vehement anger towards those who had used Molly & embroiled her into something dirty, when her whole life was clean, literally & figuratively. I highly recommend giving this a read.
dnf, the protag is clearly written to be autistic but it got grating for me as an autistic person. molly's actions didn't feel very intentional to her, it was like she was written to be autistic before being given a personality. like yeah, of course I know what scripting and breaking down social interactions to understand intent and tone is like, but this just felt excessively descriptive and dry. by the time the main victim was murdered, I just had no interest built up and let my loan for the book run out.
Quirky and cute with a Who Dunnit. I wanted to protect Molly! Ugh.
This was a cute book and I enjoyed the characters. Easy read
I was moderately enjoying this one until the epilogue. Despite that, I liked seeing the unfolding through Molly’s eyes, though I wonder if Nita herself is neurodivergent and why she decided Molly would be.
I listened to this book on audio. It was an awesome story. Love the authors writing style and the narrator was a pleasure to listen to.
This is such an interesting book. I think this is one that I will have to see the movie and I hope it lives up
Started out very strong but then it just didn’t have a lot of meat on its bones. The second half of the book felt unnecessarily drawn out and predictable.
While I liked Molly she felt a bit ‘too much’ at times. As in: it sometimes felt like the author was trying to get the reader to laugh at her instead of with her, and I’d prefer not to.
