I've never read The Giver but decided to give the graphic novel a try and was thoroughly engrossed in it. The depiction of such a utopian dystopic world was disturbing with the absence of color, emotions, and well...life. And the graphic novel only added to those perceptions especially near the end.

Truly forgot how dark this book was! Really excellent adaptation.
Wow what a graphic novel!!! I really felt involved and really felt in that world and storyline, this doesn’t tend to happen often to me when it comes to graphic novels but I’m so glad it happened with this ❤️❤️

As deeply disturbing as I remembered it from when I read it as a kid.

The Giver has been one of my all-time, most treasured, desert island, favorite books since I first read it when I was 11? 12? years old. It gives me faith in humanity to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I’ve read it a number of times and will certainly read it again, and it just simply made me happy to sit and re-re-read this incredible story and to see it done justice in the re-interpretation. This version is a little like reading The Giver distilled.

I’ve been intrigued by The Giver since I was a kid but for some reason I’ve always been intimidated by it. When I saw this graphic novel, I thought this would be the perfect way to dip my toes into the quartet. I enjoyed it so much, and while I definitely wouldn’t have taken to it well when I was younger, I have an appreciation for it as an adult. I'm looking forward to reading Lois Lowry’s original novels!
