Having never read The Giver, the story was all new for me. And as I am generally not a fan of speculative worlds, I entered into it easily and believed in it fully. Creepy! I love the way Russell integrates blue into black and white and the dramatic way he introduces color. A great alternative for readers who would benefit from visuals and text chunking.

Love having a graphic novel edition to enhance our reading of the original novel. Always makes for great discussion when we compare panels to the written text.

So well done!

The Giver is one of my favorite books. I love it so much as a full novel, that transferring it into a graphic novel was an interesting idea for me as a reader. Just like with the movie, it’s strength was in its depictions of the change from black and white to color and the transference of memory. The emotional journey Jonas experiences was lost to me. The build up to the original book for me was when Jonas begins to understand the lack of love in his world and realizes a life without love isn’t worth living. In the graphic novel, that major point just isn’t given the same emotional impact. I did like seeing Jonas’ world rather than having it described, but nothing can replace the novel in my eyes. Still, the story is incredible and I love having this additional reminder of the full book that can be read so quickly.

So good.... P. Craig Russell did a fabulous job adapting this piece! Illustrations are, of course, great too. Really well done! Makes me want to go read the original since it's been so long!

Certainly a better visual adaptation of one of my all-time favorite books than the 2014 film was. I'm not sure how much it really added to the story still, but at the very least it didn't detract from it for me.

An awesome adaptation of The Giver. My favorite book is The Giver, so I was very excited to find this book, which was an amazing way to tell the story. If you want to read The Giver and you like graphic novels, this is definitely for you!
