I loved teaching this version of one of my all time favorite books. It is an excellent graphic version and adds new layers with the visuals of Jonas' transformation as he receives the memories.

Beautifully done! I loved the black and white story with the ending in color, great illustrations and stuck true to the novel!

Two stars because the concept was very interesting but the story didn’t make sense at many times to me and I also didn’t get the ending at all so meh.

Font is a little tough to read.

Overall, a great visual to accompany Lowry’s novel.

I also loved reading about the illustrators process- tearing out pages of the book, photocopying them onto large pieces of paper and then drawing sketches in between the paragraphs.

Read the giver in elementary school and wanted to revisit but haven’t had the time to pick up the full book. Happily surprised by this graphic novel retelling. The story is vibrant even without color and the later chapters are some of the most beautiful graphic novel illustrations I’ve ever seen. Great story, even better art.
