Ignore the reviews that put this book in the "so-so" category. Those reviewers have read huge amount of ya literature and are probably quite a distance away from being young adults themselves. This is a modern romance that includes a little bit of everything and treats teenage sex with healthy respect. I've gotten to know San Francisco a bit in the last ten years, and it was really fun to follow Bex and Jack around the city. Both are artists who come from very different families and income brackets, and both are suffering from a backload of family "stuff." Who isn't, so almost any ya can relate! The two themes that I truly appreciated in this book were those of honesty and schizophrenia. Both were handled really well, though so were single parenting, being gay, and sexuality. Really good book.

This was a solid YA romance with good discussions on sex and the double standard that people put on girls when it comes to sex. It’s also got some interesting characters that you don’t normally see portrayed.

Because is an artist but she wants to be a medical illustrator and draw dissected bodies for medical textbooks for a living. Which is extremely interesting!

Jack’s a graffiti artist and while doesn’t have the typical “bad boy” persona, he does kinda of have the cliche misunderstood boy thing going for him.

This story was a very easy read, and will definitely be something I would recommend if you are looking for a YA contemporary romance.

This book was absolutely adorable and took place almost entirely in my neighborhood in SF! I was hoping for a bit more drama at the end but overall the story was a great little contemporary.

Loved it!

A little bit nerdy and gory, fun and petty crime ridden. Some commentary on mental health, right and wrong, forgiveness, Art, among other topics. Also a pretty stable and healthy relationship with fairly good communication.

3.5 stars. Loved this, want to steal Jack and the romance as my own, seriously. Can I live this love plot?

So I felt like this book was well written. The characters definitely had unique interests and stories and I really enjoyed how she touched on schizophrenia, which isn’t talked about in many YA books. But what I didn’t like was how the teenage “sneaking around” was cast in a positive light. I love what Jenn Bennett does with her characters. I always love them and they are so different than characters in other YA “romances.” And I’ve read many people say that she discusses sex in a healthy way. It’s true that she always makes safe sex, consent, and communication a part of the stories. I can definitely applaud her for that. But they don’t always HAVE to have sex. That’s a personal preference from my end and I’m sure not everyone would agree. I would just like to see it play out just once with the couple deciding NOT to have sex. In this book in particular, virginity was regarded as an embarrassment. If not for all of that, I would have given it 5 stars!

2018 reread: YEAPH STILL A FAV!!!!!!!!!!

"This was the night bus, not a Journey song. Two strangers were not on a midnight train going anywhere. I was going home, and he was probably going to knock over a liquor store."

THIS book was the perfect mix of cuteness and fast paced fun . It made me laugh and smile. I devoured it in one sitting loved the whole concept of it. The incorporation of art was awesome , the details were so vivid you could imagine them clearly how they would look. Bex was fun, sassy and I loved her. I loved reading her thoughts being narrated and all. Jack was all dreamy and sexy in his all black attire . And i loved the dynamic between the two. I ship them. This was exactly the kind of summery fun fast paced read I was looking for and I loved every second of it.

4 stars

I loved this! Its was such a great YA romance and I thoroughly connected with the characters which is happening less and less with YA contemporary.
Jenn Bennett is fastly becoming one of my favourite YA contemporary authors!

Super fast, easy read! Loved it!
