I’m resigning myself to the fact that I think I just don’t like reading books from this time-period/style. This story could be so compelling (the musical, duh) but kept interrupting itself. There was a 20+ page section on the architecture of Paris that I couldn’t get myself to read. Also, Esmeralda is so dumb and I’m so upset by that! But I see how her actions play into the theme of self-sabotage and despair.
I didn’t enjoy reading this book but I do enjoy the underlying story. Maybe I’ll find a more modern retelling and enjoy that more.

Victor Hugo, are you okay? Who hurt you? Overall, I don’t know what to think yet. I shall have to ponder. Whatever it was, it was depressing for sure.
4.5 estrellas

Multiple choice question: Who does Esmeralda marry at the close of the novel?
A. Archdeacon Claude Frollo
B. Captain Phoebus
C. Quasimodo
D. Pierre Gringoire
E. None of the above--she takes the veil and remains in the Cathedral of Notre Dame for the rest of her life
I'd say if you don't truly know the answer to the above, you need to read this book. It's actually quite good.
P.S. I don't think anybody at Disney even cracked the cover on this one.

Quasimoto is taken in by the Archdeacon Claude Frollo after being abandoned at a young age because of physical deformities. He becomes the bell ringer of Notre Dame and loses his hearing because of it.
La Esmeralda, born Agnes, but stolen from her mother as a baby, takes pity on Quasimoto and shows him kindness. He falls in love. Frollo and Captain Phoebus also fall in love with Esmeralda.
Esmeralda is falsely accused of murder after Frollo stabs Phoebus, is tortured, and admits to being a witch. Quasimoto offers her protection, but will he be able to save her?

Malgré les personnages secondaires inutiles, malgré les longues descriptions. La fin de ce livre m’a tellement ému que je peux pas mettre moins de 4
