I’ve fallen in love with Jewel’s books and have been reading through her back catalogue. I actually had 3 copies of this on my kindle, it must have been a give away in various author newsletters and I clicked it each time thinking it sounded great.

I did really like chef Adler Brecken and her views of the world. Loved that money and possessions mean little to her. I thought Quinten Cohen was super hot and virile (12 in one night is outstanding).

I really hate too many coincidences in a book. Two or three is ok but when it goes above that and it is in different cities and on yachts it becomes too far fetched.

Nevertheless, I did like the book and will read the next one because there is so much unfinished business.

Omg!

I loved Quinn and Addy so much. From their first clandestine meeting, to brutally intense and emotional journey to love, they were the perfect example of when opposites find their soulmate in each other. I love how this author wrote not only the sensuality of this couple, but the fun way that they slowly learned about each other through intimate exploration.

With Quinn, what your saw is what you got. He was a rich playboy, destined to live the eternal bachelor lifestyle. But Addy was a puzzle that was hard to crack. At first glance she was a very modest owner of a vegan restaurant. She lived within her means, considered Peta protesting a fun pastime, and volunteered and donated any excess she had towards good causes. On paper, they were complete opposites. But in every other way that mattered they were perfect for each other.

There were so many ups and downs with this couple. I love that it wasn't an easy love story, but at the same time I just wanted them to find peace in each other. This book ended with one hell of a cliffhanger, and I'm so happy I don't have to wait!

Wow hmmm, this was an absolute chore to read. Knowing JEA books and haven’t seen some reviews about a crazy cliff, I kept reading expecting a twist that I’ve come to know and sometimes love of JEA. So I read the book not out of enjoyment but to see what would happen and it turned out to be standard romance fare, and was thoroughly disappointed that things were so tame.

In fact, the book was so mundane and the relationship between the two got so wishy washy that I’ve decided not to read the second book in the duet, which I’ve literally never done before, and especially not for a JEA book! But I can’t take any more unnecessary drama :/

To say out of the two books in this series, Book two was by far my favorite. I felt this first one had way too much sex and had no actual story going on. I felt the sex parts could have been less in this one and more of a story to have it going somewhere with the book. It was nice learning about the characters and what not but I felt the story was going no where until towards the end. Read onto my review for the second book which was WAY BETTER and actually really ended up loving book 2.

“Our love felt beautiful, vital, and sometimes toxic.”

That quote sums up this book for me. Addy was trying to cope with the tragedy of her past and Quinn wanted to be man enough to help her. We get glimpses of what happened with Addy but I guess book 2 will contain the full reveal.

I liked Addy. She was spunky, kind, generous, smart, etc. She's a filthy rich vegan chef who owns her own vegan Cafe. Did I mention filthy rich? And she doesn't care about money except for how it could benefit the less fortunate. A truly remarkable character. More people should be like this! She had so many things going for her. And her support network (Mac and Evan) were amazing too. I'm glad there wasn't too much drama involved to convince her to make the switch from 'friends with benefits' to a real relationship with Quinn.

For the most part, it was hard to like Quinn. He was too cavalier in the way he handled their 'no strings' relationship. He basically flaunted what he was doing with other women but became a possessive jerk at the hint of anyone being interested in Addy. Damn hypocrite lol. I believe things went too far with Olivia. I think she should be killed off or something. She was horrific. Why couldn't she understand that what he had with Addy was only what she could dream of ever sharing with him??? I like that his title for her was 'distraction'. I think it was a fitting description.

Quinn's mother was incredible. I like how real she was and hope to see more of her in book 2. She seems to be a voice of reason.

My only issue was that I really wanted Addy to confess all to Quinn. I just feel that for a relationship to really work, everything needs to be out in the open. I understand her hesitance but there is a saying: Everything in darkness must surely come to light.

My fave quote:“The worst kind of pain is when you’re smiling just to stop the tears from falling.”

I felt like this is what best describes Addy. Fake it til you make it sweetheart. Time is the greatest healer.
