“Death isn’t a final ending, Wallace. It is an ending, sure, but only to prepare you for a new beginning.”

Add this to the list of books that have made me SOB. I don’t know really how I feel about this book other than it left me feeling like I was floating (pun half intended). I can easily say it’s made it onto my favorite books of 2021 list. There’s something so comforting about TJ Klune’s writing, I don’t have the words for it, but his books make you feel at peace after you finish them.

Well….I cried. This book was unexpected in the best way. I’ve never read anything from Klune before but I think I’ve become a fan. This book was so perfectly written, such a delicate and interesting way to tackle the topics of loss and grief and shape it around these wonderful characters that really come to life as the story goes on. I especially loved that they just referred to the door as “what comes after” and kept acknowledging that it’s lovely not to know or be sure of it - even in the face of the fear of the unknown. I loved that it wasn’t a rigid thing or based in any one religion. I do have to say, other than the beautiful concept, the story was so interesting to follow. Having Wallace learn without even realizing he was learning, figuring out how to help and how to be a friend, it was incredible. It truly took me by surprise
that the Manager brought Wallace back to life. I figured the ending would have something to do with them finding a way for him to stick around, but restoring life was completely unexpected and lovely.
Loved this.
