When the most readable part of your story is the growing relationship between a girl and a talking bird with hands, I think you should rethink your plots and dialect choices.

The plot definitely thickens in Burned, the 7th book in the House of Night series. While I enjoyed the story, I thought Zoey resolved the major problem in this book a little too easily. Either way, the book left me ready to pick up the next in the series.

A note on the audiobook: ANOTHER new narrator. I've lost track at how many this is now. This one was an improvement over the last though, and I think she continues on for at least the next book in the series.

This is the first of the books I actually READ instead of listened to. I will say that listening is more fun! The beginning of the book was kinda "eh" and dragged on. But oh man the last 100-200 pages are fast moving. Throughout the whole story Zoey's soul was shattered from Kalona killing Heath (so sad!!!). Now the gang has to once again work together to keep Zoey from disappearing from their lives forever.

Stevie Rae and her raven man was the only redeeming quality for me at this point. I just grew to dislike this main character through every decision she made.

I didn’t know what a Mary Sue was back then but now I would say that is what she is.

I had finally gotten into this series and was enjoying the plot and characters and then all of a sudden there was Burned. Not only am I not a fan of the whole Stevie Rae/Raven Mocker thing but the fact that the whole book revolved around the Otherworld and Zoey being stuck there got old very quickly. Which is why it took me so long to read. Hopefully Awakened will be better now that it is back to the norm.

Soooo. This was. . . Weird.

It’s not that I didn’t particularly enjoy it or hate it, but Burned just seemed so, unnecessary? I get that the ending to Tempted had to be explained, and that certain elements had to be introduced to make headway for the last few books, but damn. So much unnecessary shit going on in this book.

And for the love of fucking god, one thing I cannot stand is when authors write dialogue in accents. Every time that Guardian spoke in his Scottish accent I almost wanted to rip my eyes out. It actually gave me a headache. Just say the damned character is Scottish, have a few Gaelic words and be done with it. For example, ter is nae need tae write like they are speaking wummun *cringe induced eye roll*. Not to mention the over exaggerating of a black female character. Kramisha deserves better than she’s written!

The one thing I secretly enjoyed about this book was that it wasn’t all written from Zoey’s POV. We had a bunch of different POVs (but again, was in a bit excess and not totally needed, especially when characters share a scene together. Also, no need to write whose POV it is after already introducing the POV of the chapter UNLESS you are changing it). God. Now that I think about it, this book has actually annoyed me way more than the others.
