great thriller with a good mixture of personal and professional challenges without going overboard with either.

i enjoyed how this book really showed how challenging a career like Scarpetta has can be for a person both professionally and personally.

i didn’t really understand why yet another big time jump had to happens for this book to be written as it was (between the first book and this fourth one 7 years went by and this particular book takes place in 1992/1993 most likely) but it also wasn’t hindering the story by doing so.

the crime elements of this book were interesting and well done as well and kept me guessing how it was all going to be solved until the end.

i can’t say i love the ending of this one.
it’s and ending and it’s realistic but i also wish it would have been a bit more as the the other three books before this in the series ended.

overall it was a well paced page turner that i read through all 400 pages of in one day because i wanted to know what would happen and how.

i would say that shows a pretty good thriller!

I know I said the last Kay Scarpetta book was the best so far but this one beats it by a landslide. It was pretty disorienting to learn about
Mark’s death
that occurred in between books (I guess?) but after that jarring start the mystery was tight and so complex and fun to read through. I was SO GLAD that the mystery wasn’t solved by someone breaking into Kay’s house or something like that, because that was getting really old. She was just good at her job and I feel like her relationships with Benton/Marino/Lucy were really compelling. I cant wait to see where her career goes next and I’m fired up about Patricia Cornwell’s writing getting better and better with each book.
