This was an ok read for me. Kinda juvenile, I found myself forcing myself to finish just because I hate not finishing a book I’ve started. Forgettable and tbh predictable.

It was an interesting book. A slow read that was a little more work to get through.
Earlier this year, I had skim-read a good portion of this book so I’ve been reluctant to mark it on my read shelf even though I ultimately did reach the end of the story. I thought I’d leave this book on the backburner until I’d eventually feel desperate enough to properly complete it and check off one less book towards my reading goal. However, as of September I still have no urge to revisit it, and will in fact no longer like this book to ‘stay with me’ on my pending shelf.

I want to preface this review with the the fact that this book should only be read after the trigger warnings are reviewed. This book deals with some very heavy, emotional topics that could be triggering for some (or most people). Topics include: drug and alcohol use, consentual sexual behaviors, rape, child SA/rape, murder, mental health disorders, mental institutions, disassociatative behaviors, date rape drugs, violence, self-harm, ect. In addition there are on page sexual content (although it can be easily skipped over).
That being said. This book left me feeling a bit unsettled. The writing was great. The story was unique and honestly not unbelievable. As an child SA survivor I can relate to the FMC in some ways. But even without being an SA survivor a reader could not help but understand Mia. The author has taken a very tough and emotional story, or rather stories, and crafted a novel that will leave the reader contemplating things. Life, love, the strength of the human mind and soul, and the healing ability of people. I was also left feeling that medication (often over prescribed) is seldom the answer to problems of the human mind - but this has long been my mindset.
In short - this is an emotional ride that is absolutely worth it. And I will be reading the rest of the series eventually - I say eventually because I need some time to get over this read.
