Ok so not only did I read the whole thing in a matter of hours, but it's also a mix of all my favorite topics. My lovely friend Alyssa got this for me for my birthday because it's one of her faves and thought I would also enjoy it. She was right. Probably because we've met in a previous life (and that's what this book is all about). I wasn't 100% sure I would like how it was broken up into so many sections and timeframes but I loved it and it made the book go by so much faster.
If you're not a fan of reincarnation and some other worldly things, then I don't recommend it; but I loved the stories and how they tied together.

PLOT SUMMARY: "Seven linked vignettes unfold on a Scandinavian island inhabited--throughout various time periods--by Vikings, vampires, ghosts, and a curiously powerful plant"--Provided by publisher. Honestly I couldn’t sum this up if I wanted too.
REVIEW: This was a weird one. It’s not that I didn’t like, it just wasn’t really entertaining. I love the idea of reincarnation and the whole theme of the book, I enjoyed the small snippets into the different lives. But overall, I was just really….bored. There was nothing. Nothing really grabbed at me, I just mindlessly turned page after page but didn’t really absorb anything.
SUBJECT HEADINGS: Love, Islands, Reincarnation
APPEAL: This book falls into the realm of magical realism. The storyline is unconventional, and intricately plotted. The overall tone of the book is haunting and the writing is compelling.

For other people like me who may pick up the book and be like ??? about the first chapter(part one)... just power through it. The story ends up very neatly tied up and well thought out! I may have also teared up right at the end. The ghost story was my favorite and that shouldn't be a surprise to people who know me.
What did I just read? A romance with horror? A horrific romance? A book about past lives? It is a book about sacrifice, and how love can span time, and how terrible that can be. Clear and beautiful prose--it is a book that can't be defined. Why they HELL is it labeled YA?
Strange and lovely. I think I could reread and think about this book for years and never quite unravel it, because its mysteries are like those of love itself. They rise from themselves, unexplainable, their parts whole and absolute.
Found the writing very simple and not interesting even though the plot should have been exciting
I was just Mindblown by this book!!!
At first, the timeline is so blurry but it gets clearer and clearer as I read along.
Marcus Sedgewick is a master of mystery and thrill. He will make sure that he will confuse you first before he gives you the clarity to what he is trying to implore. Some may not like this form of writing but it clicks on me.
The plot of the story leaves my jaw open. It was just a total bomb that lands on you with a surprise.
One thing I love about this book is the stories that unravel. Each has a unique scene and timeline. I was thinking that this is an anthology but I was mesmerized that there is a common denominator in every story.
In terms of the cons, my head turns into chaos in finding the connections in every timeline. Gladly, I didn't give up on finishing it whereas it shed a tunnel of light on me.
This is the book that portrays reincarnation in different forms and chronology but still leads to one point and characters.
Truly, love will find its way despite all tragedies and skirmishes.
Again, Sedgewick hasn't failed me in giving me chills, goosebumps, and wonders in his novels.
Book Star Rating: 4.0
