If you are looking for a great second chance romance, sports romance with elements of light angst, humor, hockey team friendship and. Agood amount of groveling and redemption from the MMC towards the FMC, I highly recommend that you give this book a go.

Cheating-no ( MMC was legally separated before starting a relationship with FMC)

I read Brooklynaire first ( 4th in the Brooklyn Bruisers series) before this one ( which is #3) and I read a comment that said the Author excelled at 3rd person narrative ( that one was on 1st person). I would have to agree. I really thought the 3rd person narrative really flowed well in this story.

Lauren, the hockey team owners daughter pines for the Goalie Mike for 8 years. Mike is married with a toddler when they first meet. She doesn't know if he has any feelings for her in return and shelves any chance for romance. Mike holds back any feelings for Lauren until after he finds out his wife has been cheating on him for over a year. They separate and he pursues a relationship with Lauren.

A year and a half later, after Lauren and Mike are planning a life together, he goes back to his wife and leaves Lauren devastated.

When he sees Lauren again 2 years later, after his wife has passed away he decides he's not going to let a second chance at true love escape him again. The question is will Lauren give him another chance after he broke her heart?

Give me a good grovel and a real heart to heart conversation, which the author did and I am a happy reader.

This is my favorite book of this series.....<3

Easy, lighthearted read. It’s been awhile since I read any of Sarina Bowen’s Brooklyn Bruisers books, oof that’s a mouthful, but the story lines easily came back to me. Not my favorite of all the books, but still a good read.

Happy Ending.

I have read this one in the past. I recall not enjoying it as much as others. I pretty much skimmed through this time to catch the bits and pieces of the couple that the next book will be about. I did read the end again and it made me teary with how much happy the main characters create.

Looking forward to the next one.

The buddy read of the Brooklyn Bruisers series continues... This book, y'all. When I first read it, I had read it out of order and went into it with a lot of negative feelings about our heroine. I wasn't sure that I even wanted to know her story (hey, I'd started with [b:Brooklynaire|35053870|Brooklynaire (Brooklyn, #1)|Sarina Bowen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1516744572l/35053870._SY75_.jpg|56342351] and Lauren didn't come off well in that one until late in the book), but I remember loving it once I finally started it. Fast forward 2.5 years and here I am reading this again... but this time in book order. And oh, does that make a difference in how I approached Lauren and Mike's story!

So this takes place in the established timeline of post-[b:Hard Hitter|28869598|Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers, #2)|Sarina Bowen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1466612763l/28869598._SX50_SY75_.jpg|50874737], but pre-epilogue, however, the book opens up with Lauren's history with the team, with Mike, and gives us an idea why she's been as cold as she has been in the previous books. You see, Lauren and our goalie, Mike Beacon, have a bit of a history. Yes, that kind of history, but circumstances intervened and their first chance at a happily ever after was taken away pretty abruptly - and Lauren really never knew exactly why. There was the obvious answer, but that wasn't all and the way that it all went down was super-shitty. Mike's lived with that guilt ever since, but has managed to compartmentalize it and really lives for two things now: hockey and his daughter.

Lauren and Mike's journey back to each other was so well told - while I hated the way it all went down between the two of them, I was rooting so hard for them to just talk and hash out what happened last time. However, this wasn't easy for either of them - but seeing Lauren become more human, making friends with the girls (not the WAGs because... well, who cares about them. You'll understand my reaction to them as you read), seeing what drives her and is behind that icy shell was really one of the things I loved most about this book. Sarina Bowen pulls no punches when it comes to emotions and that roller coaster she puts you on to get to their HEA and I am a ho for it. Every. Single. Time. (That's probably one of the reasons why I'm doing this reread, lol.)

On to Brooklynaire!

Really enjoyed this, the spice was fantastic and the strong characters were great. The lack of conversation for some big life events was interesting for me though
