A nicely created mystery story, with a hot mess unreliable narrator of a protagonist.  I enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on based on the information filtered through Rachel's PoV.  There was enough there for me to create a few different theories as I was reading.

The ending/"what really happened" was pretty clear to me by about 2/3rds in, but by then I was invested in Rachel figuring it out and seeing what she would do with that information, so it was still a compelling read to the end.

If I have to quibble, I wonder how Rachel does not have serious brain damage from the multiple head traumas throughout the book.  Did no one put the girl in an MRI?

I actually enjoyed reading this book. I've seen people compare it to Gone Girl but I haven't read that one so I can't say anything about that debate. Two things bothered me the most: (a) all women in the book seem to be defined by the men in their lives and/or their feelings towards motherhood, and (b) the end was somewhat out of character, given what you've learnt about the characters throughout the book. I liked the plot overall though, but then again I have very little experience with the crime/thriller genre so I don't know how novel it really is. (3.75/5.00)

The biggest struggle I had with this book was that I felt no desire to pick it up! The protagonist/s were whiny, annoying and very difficult to feel sympathy for. The story was slow and clunky, the writing felt a little childish. But what I loved about this book and the only reason I DID push through this book was how gripping it was! The plot and concept of the novel was incredible and made it difficult to put down!
