A romantasy for anyone who loves Fae, witches, forbidden love, and… is that a potential love triangle I sense? 👀 A Cinderella-esk retelling with Fae prince brothers, and a human girl that is caught up way in over her head. A quick read, with a good mix of plot and romance. The ending was a bit abrupt, but I like the direction that the story is heading in this first installment of a series.

A Court Bright and Broken by Amy Patrick puts a fresh and gripping spin on Cinderella, weaving in courtly intrigue, elven magic, and a high-stakes romance. The tension is palpable from the first page, and it never lets up!
Usually, I’m not the biggest fan of dual POV, but it worked SO well in this case! Seeing both perspectives added layers of intrigue (and a little anxiety). Getting to see what the characters were thinking and plotting, along with what secrets they were harboring, made this so addicting.
Raewyn’s character arc was so beautifully done. Watching her go from someone who constantly sacrifices for others without expecting anything in return to someone who, even though she’s in a sticky situation, is finally getting to see what it feels like to be cared for. It’s almost like in this courtly jail, she’s finally felt peace in some ways. And Stellon? Let’s just say I love this man. While I usually lean toward morally grey MMCs, there’s something about a golden retriever love interest that just hits sometimes, and Stellon delivered. He might not always do the “right” thing and may be a little clueless at times, but he owns it, and he tries SO hard to be better- not just for himself but for Raewyn and his kingdom.
The two things I wanted more of?
One: Elven magic! We got glimpses of the different kinds of magic, but I would’ve loved a deeper dive into its intricacies.
Two: Stellon’s siblings!! I have so many thoughts and questions about both of them, and I need answers.
Hopefully, book two will expand on both of these and put my mind at ease!
If you’re interested in a tale of magic, romance, and courtly drama, “A Court Bright and Broken” might be a great addition to your reading list! A Court Bright and Broken officially releases on February 14!

I requested this book because I love retellings, and I hadn't read a cinderella retelling before. This story is so fun and I really enjoyed it! I will say this leans more heavily on the romance and less on the fantasy. I do wish the world had been a little more fleshed out. I want to know more about the fae and the humans, and why the world is the way it is. (Keeping this vague to avoid any spoilers!)
I also wanted a bit more from the characters. Especially Stellon. He just fell a little flat for me. The Earthwife was a lot of fun though! And I loved how stubborn Raewyn was throughout the whole story!
All in all I would say this is a fun read, and I can't wait to get some answers in the next book!

This book is definitely giving Cinderella but make it Fae. Can’t go wrong with the Elves! I did enjoy reading this take on the classic especially as the “fairy godmother” being a questionable Earthwife. I really liked the FMC (Raewynn) but the MMC (Stellon) really gave off Insta-love prince with a sprinkle of angst and I look forward to more characte r development on him. The “spare prince” Pharis really intrigues me and can’t wait for more of Raewynn and Pharis!! The cliffhanger definitely makes you want to read book 2. The pace of the book was a little slow for my personal liking but all in all it was a pleasant read.

I was lucky enough to receive an eARC for A Court Bright and Broken by Amy Patrick. I devoured it in less than 24 hours! What a great story!
First and foremost, I want to thank The Nerd Fam and Amy Patrick for an eARC of this book. I am honored!
Secondly, wow! I am processing that ending and I cannot wait for book 2! I won't talk about that ending here because I want this review to be spoiler free, but I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!! I hope this author has a discord or reader group where we can chat about our theories.
Anyway, back to the actual review part of this review. One of the things I loved about this book is that the pacing was perfect! I didn't have to wait chapters and chapters to get to the plot. We get a quick introduction and then dive right into the story. This is a good time to mention world building. I liked that it wasn't overly complicated or drawn out. It was easy to digest and understand the world. I also really like the FMC, Raewyn. She is so passionate about her family and caring for them but no one takes care of her. :( Enter our MMC, Stellon, who sure does want to take care of her! Stellon definitely gives cinnamon roll MMC vibes. Stellon is also very understanding and forgiving! GREEN FLAG MMC!! (IDK what the deal with his brother Phaeris is though. Again QUESTIONS! lol.) It also seems there may be a love triangle at play, but it's not obvious yet at this point in the story.
A court Bright and Broken is primarily focused on the love story between the FMC and MMC. I feel it's primarily a romance set in a fantasy world -- which is right up my alley! The storyline kept me captivated and wasn't too complicated. I kept turning each page with excitement wondering where the author would take me next and how the story would unfold.
I know this is just book 1 in a series, but holy cow are we off to a great start! I need to know what happens next!
Amy Patrick is a new to me author. After reading this book, I'll definitely be looking into her other works.
If you're looking for a good love story, fae, enemies to lovers, an FMC who is resilient and doesn't take any shit, and a cinnamon roll MMC, you will love A Court Bright and Broken. A Court Bright and Broken will be released on February 14, 2025! Just in time for Valentines DAY/Galentines Day!
Happy reading friends! :)

Wow! I received this book as an ARC and it’s the first Amy Patrick book. I love her writing style and the character growth through out this first book.
Stellon goes to the rough market disguising himself as a common human when he runs into trouble. While Raewyn is trying to sell her last precious items to make ends meet for her family she runs into Stellon. Their chance meeting changes their fate.
The story is a bit of a take on Cinderella, but it was different enough and the plot kept me guessing. If you are a fantasy fan, add this to your TBR!

I loved this cute Cinderella inspired story!
Stellon was adorable (and Malo!), Raewyn and her alter ego Wyn were just sweet and the bad guys were really bad guys. I love a story about Fae and Humans and the trouble that can come when the two mix!
This was an easy to read Fae romantasy, perfect for a Sunday afternoon curled up in your favourite chair with a tea and snack beside you.
It definitely kept me turning the pages and wanting more at the end! I'm excited for the next book in the series.
