Neat little book with a few snapshots into the wild and wacky field of studying the universe. I still am flabbergasted over the chapter about dark energy, when Tyson said that the repulsive force they generate can accelerate galaxies away from us to velocities faster than light. If someone had told me that a week ago I would have laughed at them, but there it is. What an amazing place we live in.

I'm attempting to broaden my knowledge by reading topics that are out of the ordinary for me. Tyson's book was a helpful introduction to astrophysics with a closing chapter that encourages moral or spiritual reflection on the cosmos. The book was well written and easy to read, and I learned a lot about our universe from it.

Many of the details were beyond my ability to grasp but I think Neil deGrasse Tyson put things into a broader perspective that anyone could understand. There were parts that got a little too technical and I listen to his podcast regularly and am able to understand it just fine so the failing was probably with my lack of ability to understand this subject rather than any failing on his part! I listened to this on audio and I'd recommend it that way.
