I thought this novel was extremely well-written.. my biggest concern there was the characters’ names. It could be very confusing to tell who was who at times. The author did a great job making this believable, and brought so many good, logical arguments to the question of whether humans should attempt colonization on a new planet after effectively destroying continued life on earth. The imagery and the way psychological issues were handled were descriptive and detailed without being wordy. I was captivated by the storyline and didn’t feel there were any parts that read “slowly.” All this being said, I was disappointed with the ending. To me, it felt like the ending went a bit too quickly and didn’t quite do the rest of the story justice.

Ficção científica distópica e depressiva. Não gostei do final, embora haja alguma lógica na forma como foi pensada a estrutura narrativa. Interessante.

Great book!
Well developed characters, fantastic pacing and thought provoking.
One of the first real page turners for me for some time.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this series progresses.
The only negative - and I agree with another reviewer - is the swapping from first name to last name for the same characters without the book introducing them with both names originally. This makes it confusing in some early parts.

I’ve had this in my library for a while now. I picked up because I really enjoyed the author’s After the Cure, but as it goes other books distracted me. I really wish they hadn’t. Traveler in the Darkwas a fantastic read.
Deirdre Gould knows how to tell a story. Watching everyone’s reactions to finding a habitable planet was engrossing and believable. It very much had me pausing to think how I would react. (I can’t say I’d have reacted any better than most of them did.) It was one character’s reaction in particular, though, that had me on the edge of my seat. I was expecting sci-fi adventure. What I got felt much more satisfying than that.
The ending was amazing. As I hit the last few pages, I found myself thinking ‘No, no way she’s going to…’ However, she did and I loved it.
Traveler in the Dark is one of those novels that you need to set aside a chunk of time to read, because it demands your attention. This is not a book you want to set aside to do such human tasks as cook dinner or go to work. The pacing was fantastic and the way the story unfolded was fantastic. Tension builds masterfully until you just need to know how everything is going to work out.
Overall, this is one of the best novels I’ve read in 2018. If Deirdre Gould isn’t on your TBR yet she should be.
