I grew up in New York City and I am a sucker for stories from the Gilded Age. I loved the slightly different perspective from one of the working staff and then an up and coming model in the future. I appreciated the details but it's hard to visualize all the art from just words. I did not realize that the Frick collection was a real place in New York. If I had known, and I had an association with the works within that collection, I would have appreciated this story even more. However, I think the author did a fantastic job of slightly tweaking history and combining the stories of multiple real people into one amazing story.

I enjoyed learning about the Frick family and the real life artists model from the 1910s. But the dialogue was appalling at times and there were character and story line decisions that made little sense

Enjoyed. Wrapped up a bit too neatly but satisfying and an interesting mystery. Based loosely on real people and places.

It got better and better as it went on. I liked it. Read for a book club.
The actual historical aspects were interesting to learn more about but the characters weren't really developed and the plot was pretty boring. There was no real build up to the mystery, which was not all that mysterious. I also didn't feel much connection between the 2 timelines.
