Just meh. Kat is a semi-famous person who is looking to starting a business with her mom. Too bad that she doesn't seem to actually talk to her mom who has no interest in the business and in fact has bought a home in the country. The relationship between these two women was rather irritating as Kat is incredibly self-absorbed and the mom is too flighty to be believed. There's also the memory of Kat's deceased father who she adored but by all accounts was rather controlling and possibly emotionally abusive. Oh yeah, there's a murder too, but that doesn't happen until the last third of the book.
This is a busy book. Plenty of action, characters, things going on with all of the characters and I loved it. It could easily have gotten completely out of control, but it worked itself out really well. An excellent mystery with characters I wanted to hug or smack upside the cranium. I could see, in my mind's eye, one of the characters that the main character and her mum despised, he is described that perfectly.
I loved that Iris spread her wings, had secrets from her daughter Kat, and was living in a real fixer-upper of a place and wasn't going to take any guff from anyone. I think she's my favorite character.
Kat, ostensibly the main character, has issues she's hammering out. She wants to be free of her life as a celebrity and live her own life but has a difficult time seeing that her mum wants the same thing. She's her MUM for heaven's sake, status quo can't be altered. Change is hard and I liked seeing Kat coming to grips with her life in sort of upheaval.
I really look forward to reading the rest of this series.
I can definitely recommend this book and author.

Interesting book. Liked many of the characters (or disliked as intended!) -- I thought the characters were well done. Some of the situations were forced, but I enjoyed the basic storyline. Like how it ended --will read book 2 to see what happens next to the characters.

[b:Murder at Honeychurch Hall|18404103|Murder at Honeychurch Hall (Honeychurch Hall Mystery, #1)|Hannah Dennison|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1396819023s/18404103.jpg|26037962] is definitely a guilty pleasure kind of book. It has everything I like in a cozy mystery: picturesque English countryside complete with a magnificent old building and garden; family drama and secrets everywhere!
I really liked the characters except David, Kat's boyfriend. Every time he said something I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
All in all, I'd recommend this book for everyone who loves a Midsomer Murders or Agatha Raisin like light read set in a small village in the country. I know I'm looking forward to reading this series!

The storyline was okay and the end did surprise me. However, the characters in this book were so unlikeable that it was difficult to read.
