This was an interesting thriller with some flaws but told from a unique perspective. I will give a disclaimer that I watched the whole show first before reading the book. Unlike other books of the genre, this book was written by a Navy SEAL, and it shows in the book. The description of weapons, techniques, and other views in the military may have been extraneous for some, but I really enjoyed it. The good part of this book was the thriller aspect. It had good, fast pacing and the action writing was on point. The not so good part of this book was the character development. James Reece was too much of a perfect character, and the side characters barely had any depth. I also felt the
weirdly forced romance with Katie Buranek lacked tact, especially since his wife died like days ago.
Beyond that, I honestly thought the show was better. If anything, read this first, but the show adds a lot more emotion rather than pure thriller involved.

Non-stop action. I already have the next one coming.

This was a quick read and kept my attention. I think i enjoyed it more because I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes of the show first and decided I wanted all the details. I admit to skimming over the technical names and specs.

A good thriller with a couple of issues. It used that thing where the opening scene is from later in the story, and while it worked in terms of setting up the event, I think it was unnecessary and kind of spoiled that part. I never really like when they do that. After that, though, it kept getting better. This is just my personal taste, but I didn’t think the main character needed to be that brutal. It took away from his role as an avenger and made him more of a revenge seeker. The Punisher does something similar, but at least he doesn’t pretend to be a “good guy.” That said, it’s not a huge issue.

The ending really tied everything together. It was pretty sick.

EDIT
I liked the references to the real guns, knives, and equipment by brand name. It gave the story a realistic feel.

I was reading the reviews that criticized the book for being "Gun porn". They gave the book one star. Their flawed reviews are biased in that if it's about guns, it must be bad. If the character was describing his love of classic cars or antique painos, nobody would bat an eye. Essentially, if you are an anti-gun liberal you will not like this book. It would be like a right wing person reading about a bikelane hipster in San Francisco. They just won't be able to relate or enjoy.
