I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads contest.
I am passing it on to a friend who likes political thrillers. I read the first few pages and it just is not my type of book but will thrill the friend.

This was the first book that I seriously considered not finishing. For one, it is just poorly written. We know the main character is a good guy because we are told every other page that he is a good guy. Apparently, the author is the one person who did not hear the old cliche about showing, not telling when writing. Second, the story is just preposterous. The bad guys are like mustache-twirling silent movie villains and the good guy is just a vigilante who is helped along with little to no conflict by so many of his friends, like they all just agree that murder is fine. Third, there are pages and pages of what can only be described as gun porn that the reader must suffer through, as well as knowing the name brand of every item mentioned in the book. Finally, this is clearly a novel written by a conservative, which I suppose is fine as everyone is entitled to a little fantasy. However, the idea that the military, of all things, is underfunded in the US is insulting to someone who works in education. I would give it zero stars if I could.
A bit like the old Tom Clancy novels- in both good and bad ways. I like the story line, the character development. I don't like/don't actually care the least bit about- all the details of weapons. But, this one kept my interest and was a good listen.
Truly terrible. How is this book so highly rated? And how did this one dimensional trite book result in such a compelling show with interesting and complex characters?

The Terminal List is exactly what you would expect it to be. A super strong, ex-military macho man goes around and kills people on a revenge mission. The twist is that the author, Jack Carr, has served in the armed forces, this means that everything is delivered with brutal accuracy. Jack Carr, using his real-life experience, paints a detailed picture of what this would be like if it were real.
Things can be said about it's political leanings, but at the end of the day, sometimes you just need a book about guy killing other guys.

This was a great audiobook and the narrator was spot on. The story follows the revenge troup with a returning soldier getting pulled into shady back-door government dealings. Following the murder of his family but unknown assailants our MC vows to hunt down the bad guys. While I enjoyed the story, it's not a genre I read often so I have no plans to read the rest of this lengthy series.
Having enjoyed the series on Amazon Prime Video, I decided to read this novel that the series is based on. I enjoyed this book as well. I just wanted to give warning to any other potential readers, like myself, that have already seen the show, and now want to read the book.
It's commonplace for movies/shows to not precisely match the books they are based on due to various reasons when developing a screenplay, one expects changes, but in this case, there were a plethora of changes to details, and even a number of changes to major plot points. I almost didn't recognize some of the characters in this book when comparing to the series.
If you can see past that, then you will still enjoy the book as well.
