Enjoyed this book, it wasn’t as good as the first but still liked the push and pull between the main characters. I also enjoyed the storyline of the female character…her strength and endurance.

Diana Dixon was ready to have the perfect summer until the bane of her existence moves in next door. Shane Lindley seems to be on a mission to go through her entire cheer squad and is leaving a pile of angry cheerleaders in his path. Diana doesn't let anyone mess with her squad and she intends to make it well known that his precise in her apartment complex is unwelcome.
Shane has been exploring his fuck boy era since his longtime girlfriend broke his heart. He's always been a girlfriend kind of guy but has lost his way in the wake of his breakup. He's not sure why the hot cheerleader next door has such a vendetta against him, but he enjoys riling her up. When his ex makes a surprise visit with her new boyfriend, he enlists Diana as his very unlikely accomplice to be his temporary fake girlfriend. With Diana's ex-boyfriend refusing the get the memo that they aren't together anymore and a dance competition coming without a partner she decides she can use Shane's desperation in her favor. Soon fake dating turns into friends with benefits and it's not long before the line between love and hate blurs entirely.
Let's start with the good. I loved their hate to love build up! I think it was done so well. The way their friendship built over nights of binge-watching trashy reality TV and practicing for the dance competition felt so real and yet still swoony at the same time. I also adored her friendship with Will and how she became his confidante. The HOA meeting antics were hysterical and Shane's continued rejection out of the neighbor's group chat had me in stitches.
I was vibing so hard with the first 80% of the book and the last 20% went completely off the rails for me. I don't agree at all with what Shane did and frankly I would have made him grovel for days. She let him off way too lightly for that. Then there was the surprise conflict shortly after Shane's misstep was resolved that completely changed the entire tone/mood of the book. I feel this book could have happily and comfortably ended before this and been a wonderful 4.5-5 star read. I just didn't feel the end of the book fit with the rest of the book and therefore I found myself slogging to get through the ending which was really disappointing.
Unfortunately, I don't read poly relationships so I'm going to skip the next book. We'll have to see where the series goes after that. I'd love to see more of the second gen kids get stories but so far, it's just been Gigi's friends with little glimpses of the OG off campus/briar u family in the background.
Thanks so much to Hambright PR for providing me with a copy for review!
