Brilliant little book

This book reads like an extended magazine column which makes sense as it is pretty much the transcript of a lecture.

Whilst I have been exposed to many of the arguments made in this book during and since university it was still a pleasure to see them so concisely and eloquently put. It was also interesting seeing the difference and similarities in culture between the West and Nigeria on many of the points raised.

Highly recommended

This is a nice intro to what feminism is and why does it matter for not just women, told though a number of personal illustrative anegdotes.

This book gives you a simple and perfect view of what feminism is all about .

i was very much looking forward to reading this book after learning that chimamanda's TED talk that inspired this book received a standing ovation. it's a very reflective piece—it had me questioning the times i could've possibly been blind to gender because i am a man. it's even a lot intriguing that this is a perspective of an african woman who has had to navigate a culture that defines anything strange as "western."

We should all read this book.

In this adaption of her TED talk in essay form, Adichie explores the necessity for feminism with clear and concise arguments drawing from her experiences both growing up in Nigeria and living in Western cultures. It is a short read that is easily understandable. Her writing is engaging and persuasive, but also enchanting. As a feminist, I loved it. And I think it should be read by everyone - male or female. However, I think it would be especially helpful for someone questioning feminism or "anti-feminist" because her arguments do not delve deeply into philosophical reasoning like other feminist writings. For people just beginning to appreciate feminism or looking for practical approaches and arguments to employ in their day-to-day life, it is perfect.
