A powerful essay, should be required by schools everywhere.

It is often said that a book, especially an opinion-type book like this one, is too long, that it could have been a good magazine article but the author puffed it up into a full book. Adichie has not fallen into that trap here, with the actual text clocking in under 50 pages. Her point is simple: men and women have been raised differently and are still seen and treated differently in ways that do not correspond to the physical facts of biological sex. Those cultural expectations, especially in her home country of Nigeria but also in the Western World, are painful and limiting to both men and women and everyone should fight against them. We Should All Be Feminists.

Everyone should read this

An awesome read about the image that surrounds the word "feminist". Very true to what I see in Uganda as well. A friend asked her estranged husband to father a second child with her as a single woman with one child is shamed by the community as obviously she wasn't in a serious relationship when she got pregnant. At least with two children, her children are not referred to as bastards and she's single because she could not hold onto her man. I am taking this to Uganda to share there.
