The message is loud and clear and simple. We should all be feminists.

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a compelling and accessible exploration of what feminism means in the modern world. Through personal anecdotes and clear, thoughtful prose, Adichie invites readers to reconsider gender roles and embrace equality for all.

Bought this book from a McNally Jackson on my trip to New York, as a sort of introduction to Adiche before I read something bigger like Dreamcount.
I finished this before the flight home could even take off.

Solid points, albeit perhaps not the most earth shattering in 2025. She essentially lists down the ways Nigerian society continues to subjugate women despite the legal rights women are afforded, peppered with anecdotes to highlight these beats.

Tiny, yet powerful talk...

“We teach girls shame. Close your legs. Cover yourself. We. an make them feel as though by being born female, they are already guilty of something. And so girls grow up to be women who cannot say they have desire. Who silence themselves. Who cannot say it they have desire. Who silence themselves. Who cannot say what they truly think. Who have turned pretense into an art form.”

I was hoping this would elaborate on her powerful TED talk but it is basically just a transcript of the essay. Still great, though. One of my favorite TED talks is her other one-the danger of a single story.

4.5/5 Wonderful, concise book on Feminism.
