This is a cuter series than I was thinking it would be, but the tendency to make panels very dialogue heavy got a little tiresome to read. I like the relationship between Sasami and Sakuraba.

This was rocking the boat between a 1 and a 2 but I've decided if I lose all desire to read further in a book then like, okay I can say it's a 1. Plenty of other reviews to read if you disagree but anyway here is the problems with the book. It is positioned as a Yuri cop manga and it's not really that or anything, it feels like a slice manga with a concept that allows characters to be noisy. The romance here is hyper slow burn if anything and that just doesn't do it for me in particular when the slow burn is draped over such run of the mill stuff. There is a transphobic scene on a subway which is an awful thing for a manga that will likely be read by many trans women to have to see, another reinforcement that they aren't accepted. Even if that wasn't the intent of the scene I was turned off and could only read ab it further then that. This was written years ago and I won't take it as Milks position but I am a bit more turned off to check out more of Milk's work even after being bored, a tiny bit upset, and just not inspired at all by Gakuen Polizi.

Ughhhhh this was just not a manga for me.
Not much romance but the relationship between the two main characters is basically just opposites and I’m sure they’ll attract eventually.
But I won’t know because I can’t get into this series. It took me so long to get through.

Super quick read. I picked this up on the clearance shelf at Books A Million on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. I absolutely can't wait to see what becomes of Aoba and Midori in the next volume!

Also, I ship Aoba and Midori so hard ^_^

I actually really enjoyed this. The art was lovely and I thought the story was simple and sweet. I want to get my hands on the next volume soon.

Gakuen Polizi is a bit of a departure from Milk Morinaga's usual milieu. The main characters, Sasami Aoba and Sakuraba Midori, are actually junior police officers who masquerade as high school students to investigate a rash of crime that's been happening at the school.

While our two officers are falling in love with each other, the plot focuses on their buddy cop dynamics and, surprisingly, a critique of the limits of the law. Aoba joins the police to help people, but as the story progresses, she finds out that the law falls woefully short on providing people real support and healing after a crime is committed. This serious topic is discussed with a nuance, empathy, and humor only Morinaga could provide. Normally, I'm wary of stories involving the police, but I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

I recommend Gakuen Polizi to all Morinaga and yuri fans who want a unique twist to the typical high school romance. I'm still on the hunt for volume 2, but I'll be sure to read!
