Firstly a huge thanks to Crooked Lane Publishers for my e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reading between the crimes is the second book in the Jane Doe Book Club Mystery and I regret that I didn't read the first book in the series. Reading between the crimes follows Lyla who is roped in by Harper who works at the library to help her finr in such d her aunt and then later Harper's huband is killed in Lyla's parents library. Lyla is then on a mission to clear her friend's name and get this one of their reads is manifesting in real life. This book is fast paced and filled with endearing characters such as Lyla's grandmother. If you love Hallmark Mystery movies you will enjoy this book.

A tale of mystery.

Reading Between the Crimes is the 2nd book in the Jane Doe Book Club Mysteries Series by Kate Young in which Lyda has been working with her uncle for about two years now at Cousins Investigative Service. The annual October Pub Crawl was something Lyda and her friends were looking forward to every year in Sweet Mountain north of Atlanta.

The Jane Doe Book Club was meeting this month at Sweet Mountain Library to discuss their latest book "Crooked House." Harper Richardson one of the Librarians was on her cell phone as Lyda walked in which Lyda over heard the distress and anger in Harper's voice The Jane Doe's were worried about Harper after hearing about her life at home. Upon leaving after Jane Doe meeting Lyda and her grandmother, Daisy headed to the charity benefit at Lyda's parents house. Lyda wanted to see the new Library that was recently renovated in which Gran's finds a body in there. Poor man was Leonard Richardson, Harper's husband! Who would kill him?

This story had a lot of twists and turns which kept me guessing until the end. I love the fact that we learned a lot about Lyda's mothers family. I can't wait for the next book!

Reading Between the Crimes by Kate Young is a small-town cozy, the second in the Jane Doe Book Club series. Our MC, Lyla, is settling into her job as a private investigator in training.

This second book loses no time throwing you right into the action. Lyla’s dropping her grandmother off at the family home after a book club meeting. Knowing there are chocolate truffles in the kitchen because of her mother’s charity event happening, Lyla and her gran make their way to the kitchen and are looking for a quiet spot to enjoy their snack when they stumble on a body in the library.

The victim is the controlling husband of the book club’s newest member, Harper. Lyla uses all of her investigative abilities, honed by reading mysteries, to try to find the real killer before Harper gets sent to jail for good.

This is no leisurely-paced cozy mystery. It’s a thrill ride, crammed full of generations of family secrets, double-crosses, gang vandalism and assault, and the machinations of religious cultists. Seriously, this is one adrenaline-fueled mystery set in a small southern town that is anything but sleepy.

Lyla is resourceful, protective of friends and family, with insatiable curiosity. Her sometimes tense relationship with her mom is very relatable. I loved that she has the support system of her two besties and her quirky gran who clearly has no filter, at all, ever.

The plotting is intricate and skillfully done. A lot happens in the book, not just around the murder but with Lyla’s family relationships. It could’ve turned into a muddled mess but it didn’t. Kate Young wove all of the threads together and when the revelations come, they make sense.

This book is a great entry point – you don’t need to have read the first book to understand what’s happening. Although after finishing Reading Between the Crimes, I’m sure you’ll want to see how it started. Kate Young writes another cozy series set in Georgia, the Marygene Brown series.

For fans of Maddie Day’s Cozy Capers Book Group mysteries and Laura Gail Black’s Antique Bookshop mysteries and Tracy Gardner’s Avery Ayers Antique series.

Actually I hadn't read the first book from this series, but early chapter of this book help me catching up with some details about our main character, her town and all people she cares about. Personally I really love to saw that the MC is member of a book club. Not only as decoration to her character but blending perfectly at storyline and plot.

This mystery book is fun, page turner and easy to follow. I found this book is simple to understand but offer interesting story with twists and turns.

Thank you for Netgalley to provide me with this ARC to exchange with a honest review.

…brilliantly crafted characters and intriguing clever plotlines that will keep you turning pages…

Reading Between the Crimes, the second in the Jane Doe Book Club Mysteries begins a year or so after the events of book one, On Borrowed Crime. Lyla Moody has established herself at her Uncle Calvin’s Private Investigations Agency, has settled into a comfortable relationship with her agent boyfriend and seems that her family has become a bit more understanding of her life choices. When a local librarian and friend of the true crime book club the Jane Doe’s, Harper Richardson, seems to be under duress and confides in her, Lyla steps up as a friend, agreeing to help her find her missing aunt. Things deteriorate when Lyla and her beloved Gran stumble across the body of Harper’s husband Leonard Richardson at a fundraiser hosted by Lyla’s parents. While waiting for the police to arrive a key piece of evidence goes missing and everyone becomes a suspect. When the case takes a turn and Lyla becomes a target, taunted with clues that coincide with their book club pick, Agatha Christie’s the Crooked House along with her friends Lyla begins to put the pieces together and a strange connection to Lyla’s Mother and Uncle Calvin’s past makes this even more chaotic.

Author, Kate Young has done it again, brilliantly crafted characters and intriguing clever plotlines that will keep you turning pages and if you’re like me…losing sleep. I really enjoyed Reading Between the Crimes, although the second in the series it works well as a stand-alone, but I would really recommend On Borrowed Crime as well, both are fantastic reads, and I am looking forward to reading future books in this series!

I enjoyed this one more than the first book in the series. I just don't know how I feel about the characters yet.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed this one quite a lot. It held up well as a standalone. It was well written and well paced. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing. I actually thought that this story was darker than I am used to in my cozy mysteries (not a complaint, just an observation). The characters were likable overall, and the ending was satisfactory. That said, I felt like the ending was a little rushed and it left us with some loose ends. Overall though, I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for the next book in this series.

**ARC Via NetGalley**

After reading "On Borrowed Crime", the first book in the Jane Doe Book Club Mystery series, I couldn't not read the sequel. This is also my 3rd book by author Kate Young - can you tell I am addicted? :)

Lyla and her book club are reading Agatha Christie's "Crooked House" and suddenly find themselves in a crime scene that is remarkably similar. When Lyla's friend Harper is accused of murdering her controlling husband, Lyla and her friends move heaven and earth to prove her innocence.

"Reading Between the Crimes" is a great murder mystery and I grew even more attached to the characters. Especially Lyla's Gran, she has no filter. Kate Young has a writing style that gets you hooked from page one and when you think you know how the plot will unravel - well, let me tell you, you don't!

And this is exactly why I gave this book 5 stars. Many thanks to NetGalley for giving me a chance to read this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
