Really good action-packed romance with some dark moments, crime lords, and a couple with sexual tension and lots of steam!

Good sci-fi and a lovely romance

The romance is slow burning which I kind of like. Neither Kara nor Davien are looking for a mate, heck Davien doesn’t think he is a human. But as they are thrown into situations together they learn to trust. And the futuristic world of despots and androids and worker bots gives us an exciting platform for their romance.

It started out interestingly, but I felt like it went kind of downhill when the romance aspect was introduced; the author didn't give much explanation of the instant bond between the two characters and it felt jarring. The set-up was interesting but I did spend a lot of time wondering what the end goal was; there was a lot of seemingly aimless running around and digressions from whatever the primary mission happened to be at the moment. A fun read, but a little all over the place.

This was fine entertainment. I didn't hate the characters, which isn't a given for sci-fi romance. As much as I sometimes love an alien romance. It's not uncommon for the aliens to lean so far into alpha a-hole territory that I can't bear the gender dynamics that result. So, the fact that Wyn didn't do this and therefore I didn't hate the romantic leads is actually a point worth mention and praise. The writing is clean and easy to read and I don't remember any big editing mishaps. So, fine entertainment.

It's not deep though. There's not enough world-building or character development. The romance isn't particularly developed and it's not explicitly fated mates to excuse its lack of development. And while the book ends reasonably, I didn't feel it quite reached a happily-ever-after or even a happy-for-now. It felt just a little too soon for that, like the book needed a few more chapters of wrap-up before that was a safe assumption.

All in all, however, for fluffy entertainment, it did it's job. I'm not a fan of the cover though.

Standalone with HEA.

Had a caper feel to it that I enjoyed. The instalust didn't bother me because it also had kind of a fated-mates feel, but ymmv. I liked how the heroine learned to trust the hero based on his actions, not because of the instalust. She had a lot of reasons to be wary about trusting people. Both leads were kind and protective of others, despite circumstances that didn't immediately seem to reward that behavior.

It's a weird little book. The second half felt like a good second half of a scifi romance but the first half inferred a lot of stuff without actually explaining how the world works and what the background to our hero is. I'm not sure if there is a series that's a prequel to this coz that would make sense . On it's own, its a nice little read, and I wouldn't mind a whole series dedicated to this couple staying on planet and eventually setting things to right...
