very short read (took me about two hours) and overall just fine in my opinion. I don’t like books written with this style of voice (somewhere between first and third person?) as I find it difficult to engage with the characters meaningfully.

Hazy and foreboding, as uncomfortable as a sticky summer afternoon, and won't take much longer than that to finish. I let the bath go cold because I didn't want to put it down.
Graphic: Domestic abuse
Minor: Violence

This book was terrifying and electrifying. It brought tears to my eyes and took my breath away with its beautiful, dark writing.
I participated in experimental archaeology in college so I was drawn to this story by its setting (other anthropology nerds will likely enjoy this too) but the underlying commentary on race, sexuality, and feminism was thought provoking. Humans are capable of extraordinary tenderness but also thoughtless cruelty, especially in groups. Especially when there are no "rules".
This book is reminiscent of Educated and Lord of the Flies.

Type of read: Commuter Read.
What made me pick it up: I think the cover art originally got me and then the description truly sucked me in. Also, not going to lie, I really liked the idea of a shorter read.
Overall rating: Not a bad, quick little read. Definitely wasn't expecting some of the content or the ending but I liked this book overall.
Reader's Note: 'Ghost Wall' includes themes of physical and mental abuse, human sacrifice, and cult thought processes.
